I have to believe fake. I mean it'd be great but its coming outta nowhere so I would have to say hoax. Would be great though. I would definitely have to learn to solder.
Also come to think of it, some PS3's aren't backwards compatible. So should we now believe this will make that possible. Not looking good....

I agree railroad, as for backwards compatibility with backups maybe they implemented an emulator in the chip? but on the whole I would hate to be dissapointed if this was a hoax.

i dont think so....
i visit their web site and there are no pics, no data, no proofs, nothing.
They just say we done it.
In that case, i have done it too, here are the specs
? Works on all PS3 and PS4 models, including slim.
? Works on all PS3 and PS4 regions (USA, JAP, PAL and Marsian)
? Direct Boot of PSP,PSX,PS2,PS3 and PS4 backups.
? Supports multi-region VHS,Betamax,VCD,DVD,HDDVD,BD Movie backups
? Ultra Transparent, super-stealth operation.
? Integrates proven sdf's "AI" xtreme-Code Modifying System.
? No awkward USB interface - just insert something/whatever and play!
? Supports all titles up to 2030.
? Ultra-low power consumption; does not interfere with normal PS3 operation. it uses Solar Power.
? 0 wires to solder
? No external PC/laptop needed, just a hammer.
? Completely upgradeable firmware, via sdf's optical fiber interface
? There is a beta FW version too, that plays wii and 360 games but i havent found a way not to be banned from live yet.

There is one certainty...it's just a matter of time until it is shown to be one or the other.

are people actually going to mod there ps3 when the time comes? theres no way im going to buy a BD-R Drive that takes hours to burn a $10 blu-ray disk, and would take forever to download.

Your friend is honest and thinks she plays AC2 on a PS3. In reality she is playing AC1 on a PS2.

at the moment, and considering the costs of a bluray burner, it is still FAR cheaper to buy the games (unless your a nerd and wants every PS3 game in existence)

in reply to the "its too expensive to burn games for the PS3"
I would have to disagree, I can easily buy a pack of 15-25 pack of Bluray Discs from any best buy or computer store here for $60-$90 CDN. and a bluray burner for $200.
now just going with the most expensive $90 spindle and $200 drive its about $327.70 after 13% tax here. from those 15-25 blurays if you on average buy PS3 games at $40 each (im just getting the middle number from used to new $20-$70), that would be $600 in games for the 15 spindle and $1000 for the 25 spindle.
so really you are saving yourself a good $300-$700 in games. now people will say it takes too long to download games... well so what, you are getting a game you would normally pay for $20-$70 for a fraction of the price. also people with bandwidth caps will complain they wont be able to download many games a month. just switch to a company that offers you unlimited bandwidth in your area. I have a decent DSL connection (7mb down and 1mb up). when you download games from a private tracker as well it take about about 5 hours tops even for bluray rips.
thats just my opinion on the "too expensive" argument, flame me if you want.

I'd be happy if they would just make a modchip that would let me play my legal PS2 games on the unit! I don't think I would want to do the mod for PS3 games even if it were legal to do so...I remember the PS2 modchips killed online play.

Instead of burning a game into a blu-ray disc, should be able to boot from an external or the on board hard drive. Similar to a PSP. Although, I have to admit that a 1TB hard drive can only hold 2 games (blu-ray to its full capacity).

I hope you wrote that in knowing that a normal bluray disc is 50gb. not 500gb

Minor correction... a "normal" BD or BD-R is 25 GB.

Most games and movies are on 25GB discs, there arnt very many games that are on 50GB discs,i think perhaps 2 or 3 have filled th capacity of a 50GB disc.
Also any games can be shrunk to fit on a smaller disc, some games could even fit on a regular DVD.

i wasnt saying they fill a whole 50gb disc, they normally use a 50gb disc for bluray from the distributor. check the back of most bluray movies it says what size the disc is.
and i know they dont use most of the bluray disc for games since most of the games from PS3 are for 360 and they dont modify anything just put it on a bluray.
perhapes next time i should just explain every detail possible when i try and express a point.

i dont believe it but and if that chips is indeed real will only last till next FW update.
Sony will find a way to track it down and kill it, and it is not just sony i believe that sony will get help to kill it from game developers too.
They will not let this happen.

They will make it so that all games require you to log in to verify. And one you log in, the FW update will be pushed on you. You won't be able to log in to the PSN without getting the FW update. Modding is much more difficult now that games are more online interactive.
