I am just about 100% confident enough in myself to attempt to flash my Hitachi 46 Drive for my 360.

I have a SATA connection on my motherboard, and I have found that my chipset version is NVIDIA MCP61

Will I be able to flash the drive with that particular chipset using Jungle Flasher? I have searched EVERYWHERE and I can NOT find an answer yet.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again!

I do not know about that particular chipset. There is really only one way to find out.

I have a Intel 915 chipset and I had to do the same thing. Unless you get lucky and somebody else has the same chipset as you, you will just have to take the plunge.

On the bright side, even if you do brick your Hitachi, you will then have an excuse to get a more reliable/easier to flash drive.

There is no harm in just hooking it all up, though. If your computer detects the drive, then you are good. All you really have to worry about is the driver, program, or another program crashing your PC while flashing. That and getting the damn case open.

Oh yeah, and be extra safe with the Xbox's power connector to the DVD drive. You can plug it in upside down and fry it if you're not careful.

Alright. So let me make sure that I have everything straight now.

1st off, I need to have my drive's power plugged into the 360, and the SATA connector plugged into my PC.

Then I power them both on at the same time. (Also making sure that the VGA cable is plugged into the back of the 360.)

Then I launch JungleFlasher. (Which I have already downloaded the xtreme firmware and original bin files from a link that someone else posted here already.)

Then I just follow the steps in the tutorial that I downloaded from the Jungle Flasher website.

Now, what happens if I get my drive into ModeB, and then decide to stop for some reason before flashing? Will the drive go back to normal on it's on? Or will I have messed it up?

Thanks again for your help. I just want to make sure that I get this done right the first time. And if for any reason I am not 100% confident in myself to do it correctly, I will have someone else do it for me. I just don't want to have to mail my 360 to someone and pay to have something done that I MIGHT be able to do myself.

Wait a sec, you got xtreme or did you get iXtreme? Huge difference as xtreme is realy old. For a Hitachi drive you need iXtreme 1.51, it's the latest version and able to play all games out atm.

Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

Judging from your post, you can definitely flash it yourself. You will do fine.

I don't bother turning the 360 and PC on at the same time. Just have the drive powered from the 360 and hooked up the PC and then turn on the PC.

Yes, when Windows loads up, go ahead and load JF and put the drive into mode B. To answer your question, yes, the drive will go out of mode B when it is powered off.

Then, yes, follow the tutorial. Basically this means dumping (backing up) your current firmware, including drivekey, and then flashing iXtreme 1.6 on top of it, making sure to use 'manual spoof' to get your drivekey into the iXtreme 1.6 firmware.

If you finish flashing, put the drive back into your 360, and get all disc read errors, or your drive reading games as a DVD, then you didn't flash the drivekey correctly.

Alright. That sounds simple enough. I suppose the biggest factor is just seeing if my PC will even recognize the drive at all.

Oh, and Eisherz, I have the iXtream 1.5 FW. I downloaded something from rapidshare that had all of the Hitcahi FWs in one folder. I am assuming the bin file that I need to flash with is:

ix151-46.bin (about a 256kb sized file)

I also have another file in the folder called:

orig46.bin (about a 256kb sized file)

I guess I will hook everything up either later this evening, or sometime tomorrow and see what happens.

The only bad thing is that I will have no backed up games to test this on. Will a regular backed up xbox game work with this flash? If so, then I have a couple of those.

And I believe that my xbox is NOT an arcade version after all seeing as how it was manufactured back in 05. The arcade version didn't come out until 07/08 did it?

UPDATE

So like I said, I have a couple of backed up original Xbox games. I decided to put one into my 360 just to see what would happen. The game is NBA 2K7. Now, given that I do not have a hard drive yet, I know that I can not play the game anyhow.

But the console DID recognize the game and listed it as NBA2K7! Is that any indication that my drive MAY already be modded? And if so, how will I know for certain?

That orig46.bin is a stock Hitachi 46 firmware in case you lose your orig.bin dump from your drive.

If original 360 games work on your system after the flash then it was successful and it will play backups once you get them (assuming your drive's laser is good).

Good luck. You will definitely be able to do it. It's nice to help somebody with more than a few brain cells every once in a while.

Not sure about original Xbox games backed up to tell you the truth.

If it's used, then I guess it's possible that it is already modded.

So once I hook the drive up to the PC, it should tell me if it has already been modded, right? Because if so, then I will have to put it back to the stock firmware before upating to the newest iXtreme firmware... that is, if it needs updating.

Very cool. No problem at all.

Alright, so I'm all set up. I have my DVD drive hooked up to my PC through the SATA connection on my motherboard, the power is still plugged into the 360. Both the PC and the 360 are currently on.

I load up Jungle Flasher, and I get a "No Drive Detected". So what might I be doing wrong at this point? Is there something I missed somewhere along the way?

*UPDATE*

So I played around a bit with the Jungle Flasher, and under Port Properties, I noticed a drop down menu. So I clicked on it and I chose 0x0970

When I did this, I was shown a list of stuff underneath the drop down box. This stuff was as shown below:

Vendor: Hitachi

F/W Rev: GMBOA52A

Reserved: GEK834RBUNDLHA

I am still not detecting the drive though in the drive dropdown menu on the right side of the screen. Each time I click refresh, it says that No Hitachi drives were found!

So what do I do from here? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

*UPDATE 2*

Alright, so I started over from scratch and I was FINALLY able to get Jungle Flasher to put my drive into Mode B. I have the flashing blinking light on my 360, so that confirms Mode B is set.

Now for the hard part....

Wish me luck!

*UPDATE 3*

Well, it seems that everything went through exactly as the tutorial said it would. Now, my next question is simple...

Do I need to flash the firmware key? I know I have read stuff about that before, and I want to make sure that I get this all right the first time with no errors.

So, do I need to do that as well to insure a correctly flashed drive?

All done! Could someone please look over the log and make sure that everything looks correct for me? I would greatly appreciate it! And thanks again to EVERYONE who helped me get this far. MAJOR thanks goes to qwerty99!

*UPDATE 5*

Well, the system is hooked back up now, and I am successfully playing an original disk version of SD vs RAW 2008. As soon as I get a backup made, I will test it out to see if it works or not.

I have been told that as long as your console will still play original copies, then the flash was successful. So I guess I am home free. Now I just have to hope that my lazer will be strong enough to play backups...

Thanks again everyone! You have been a HUGE help.

And sorry about all the posting this morning. I just wanted to keep a taly of what I have done in case I ran into a problem, someone could help me by reading back.

Ahhh... my bad, and I do apologize for that. Perhaps if the admin of these forums would add a DELETE option to our posts, I could go back and clean it up a bit and add all of my posts into one BIG post.

But thanks for the "tip".
