Alrighty, I'm just gonna get down to brass tacks (oh wait, I didn't bring any..)

Okay so this is what I need:

For flashing Lite-ON 74850C
-Hacked Firmware (iXtreme 1.51+ for Wave 3)
-CK3 Connectivity Kit + Probe for Extracting DVD Key (R707)
-VIA 6421A S-ATA card (onboard might work)
-Grounding Xbox to PC (alligator clips-attach to both metal cases, or let chassis touch chassis)
-Additional S-ATA Cable
correct..?

Also, I would like to have relatively specific details about what exactly I need to do in order to make connections for flashing. More specificly, I am pretty confused about several things. The Connectivity Kit Pro has something to do with USB, right? I mean, does it have a port or a connector or something. I am dumb, yes (more like newb). I have already opened my Xbox up to the point of the insides. I have seen pictures of people showing the R707 hole in which the probe must be inserted. Where is and how do you get to that hole? Thanks in advance.
Also, I have heard that when you download games, you should stealth patch them through ABGX360, which I downloaded. I set the options correctly, and am wondering what sort of a DVD writer I need. I understand I need it to be able to write DVD+R DL and that's it right? Would I have to get a new one, or could I use my computer cd thing? As in the CD-ROM port, because I have burned music CD's ( I know they are very much different) but would it work if it could burn DVD+R DL? Or do I have to get something totally different. Also, is there firmware specific to the Lite-ON? Because I'm also confused about that. I cannot find a Serial (DB9) connection that is free in the back of my computer, so I will have to use USB, correct? Also, I looked at the JF tutorial, it helped me alot thanks leerage. I am a complete newb about this, I have a very basic level of technical knowledge, which is why I am asking questions, in order to KNOW. Hehe, so bear with me please, If I sound like an idiot. If you believe you can help me very much, I would like to meet you via MSN, if that is alright with you, because I need so many questions answered, and half of them I forget immediately. Thanks in advance people!

P.S. - What is a com port, why is it important, and how can I get one? (I started up JF, and it said no COM Port detected.)

Ok first thing, you will want the iXtreme 1.6 firmware, since it's the latest one.

The CK3 Connectivity Kit + Probe, is used for extracting the key from the DVD Drive. With that tool you plug it into the serial on a computer. The Serial port is gonna be the COM Port when you open up JF. If you don't have a Serial Port, then you will need a USB to Serial Adapter, so that you can use that instead.

To get to the R707 hole, you not only have to take your system apart, but also the Drive. There are 4 screws holding the metal shielding together, and once you get that off, it will expose the R707 Hole.

You don't want to ask about downloading games in here, cause it's against forums rule, but yes you will want to check them with ABGX360 to make sure they are patched properly.

As for burning the game, you can check on the front of your Drive, and if it doesn't say DVD anywhere, or DVD DL, then you have to buy a Dual Layer DVD Burner. They aren't expensive these days, so you can get one for about $25. I recommend a Pioneer burner!

Thanks for the reply!
I know I need 1.6 because it's the latest, but do I need Lite-ON specific firmware?
Also, someone told me in another forum that the Connectivitiy Kit PRO has a usb connection instead of serial...or was it both..
Thanks for clarifying the R707 deal!
Say I did buy a Pioneer DVD Writer, how would I connect that to my computer? And would I have to mount it inside of my case, or could I have it sprawling out? Thanks again! And there are still some questoins to be answered in my original thread start. Thanks in advance!

Nope, you will basically be making contact and the probe has a spring in it to allow you to push down. You will see the green light and then click dump key etc.

Yes, there is specific iXtreme 1.6 firmware for the 74850C Lite-ON.

Yes, the CK3 PRO has a Serial and USB connection.

Do you have an extra slot on the front of your PC for a DVD drive? The DVD drive is either going to be connected via SATA or IDE.

Can you post your unanswered questions and I will address them.

@andmill11, I do not ask the same questions please read before, and because you were not helpful in the other thread. Already it seems I'm making more progress now with this one.

@leerage, WOO, that helped alot! Yes I do have another slot in the front of my computer. Now I know about the firmware, I'm going to go download it, and thanks about the CK3 Pro too. I was kinda like..what?

In order to get the CK3 to work, does it have like USB or Serial ports or connectors? And what exactly does the Connectivity Kit do besides provide a different source of power for the 360, and allow you to use the CK3 probe? Thanks again, I am so much more closer to flashing it than I was 2 weeks ago. I have learned much, and want to learn more. Thanks in advance!

If your computer doesn't have a Serial (DB-9) connection, you will have to use USB. Serial/USB is how the key data is transferred from the probe to your computer.

The connectivity is handy because you don't have to have your 360 to power the drive. With the Pro/Lite you have an ON/OFF switch that will allow you to easily power cycle the drive. The connectivity kit makes flashing/pulling key data a lot more easier.

Bah. Beat me to it ^

I already said you only needed the USB port but you were too stubborn to read what I said.

If you had skimmed over the jungle flasher tutorial or leerages great tutorial on the site you wouldn't even have these questions.

The connectivity kit provides an alternate source of power and allows you to eject the tray easily without having to mess with the power plug.

I also told you to ignore the ODD because it will do nothing but confuse you further. I say this because it tells you what it does in the product description.

Thanks leerage, first question I meant does it have like male connectors? and so the ck3 is for easier power cycle and for key transfer from the ck3 probe correct? but what kind of connection does the probe use? thanks again!

The probe is tied into the power cord from the kit to the drive. The end that has the probe attached to it, you must insert that into the drive. Reversing it could fry your drive. In this image, you can see the probe tied into the connections of the end plug:

The Pro version has a female serial connection and you computer will have a male connection. The Lite version has a modified serial cable. One end is the normal female connection and the other end has been modified to a 3 pin connection.

Ok andmill, lets think for a second. I am asking someone else in another thread because you were not very helpful. Your explanations were hard to understand for someone with only a basic level of technical knowledge. Also you said the HDD..not ODD. You said just throw away the HDD, all it will do is confuse you further. I thought you meant the SATA Hard Drive that also came with it. I understood your explanation of the USB thing on the thing you told me to buy, but I decided not to get that and just get the basic pack itself. I also read through the JF tutorial and it only answered some of my questions. Although I am extremely smart, I get confused easily, and do best in live chat, either online or in real life. I'm sorry if I dissapointed you by telling you I didn't understand it, I just am really new. Really..new. I read the AfterDawn JF tutorial, not the pdf. So be more clear if you meant the PDF. Just stop trying to be negative, I just want to know how to flash my Xbox. It's slightly complicated for someone like me, okay? Jesus..now help me please. haha!

Oh leerage, didn't see your post yet haha. Ok thanks that helped! In the picture all I see is the drive and the probe. Is the probe that whole thign that says ck3 or is that the actual kit? And tell me more about how NOT to fry my "drive". Oh wait, is that what that was when someone said to plug it in the correct direction into the DVD drive? AHHHHHHHHHHH....!!!! I see now. Oh my gosh, finally I get the CK3, leerage you are a mindsaver. I also forget things easily, so im going to draw out the ck3 thing b4 i forget lol.

Oh okay, I see the probe thats tied in. Huh. Okay, so the connector that is white on the end is power? And the other is SATA, correct? Also, my power cable seems fairly tight. It's quite difficult to pull out, assuming I don't have to unsrew anything correct? Also, the SATA was difficult as well, but I only unplugged that from the actual 360, not the drive. Tell me about this more please. TY in advance!!!

wow..

Alright leerage he is all yours.

For the record: This is what I said

"Ignore the SATA HDD adapter that it comes with. "

That would be referring to the ODD. Once again, like I said, it will just confuse you.

The Sata HDD Adapter and the ODD were two seperate things listed in the product description I thought..maybe I misread. Anyways..it doesn't matter anymore I just want to know how do the things I am currently having trouble with. Thanks andmill for trying to deal with a newb like me lol.

Yes the powercable is a bit harder to pull out...no you dont have to unscrew anything.

I've already gone through and done all this but I used a 360 Xtractor, not the CK3 so my advice stops there. =/

edit:
imho after reading through here it seems the ck3 is a bit more complicated than the 360 Xtractor, whatever gets the job done I suppose.

Hey guys I have a few questions. I have this motherboard http://www.biostar-usa.com/mbdetails.asp?model=TFORCE%20550

Is that compatible with the DG-16D2S drive? If so do i need the kit? (lite or pro)

If I need to get a new motherboard will this one work?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815124022

If so, will i need the kit with that because I have heard that with that mobo it is possible to flash with jf without the kit. Also where is the best place to buy the ck3 kit with probe (least expensive non shady site?) Thanks alot for your help!!
