Xbox 360 1.6 extreme "open tray" error

I am a noob on the xbox scene and have a 360 that had 1.51 firmware on a ms28 drive. there was 12 backups that came with it and all worked. when i went to make a backup i keep getting open tray error. i have tried img burn, clone cd and mutiple other programs. i have watched several tutorials and go step by step. never had one error in burning a game. just dont work. so i reflashed to 1.6 and still same error. i have been racking my brain for over a week now with no luck. i have so many hours in reading i am sick of reading so i thought i would ask for a little help.
my drives are both lg
tried memorex and verb. disc
backup games that came with it still work with 1.6
burn and 2x and 2.4x
and help would be appriciated thank you in advance.

Open Tray error is usually related to the laser. If you are already using good media, you can try a POT calibration. If that doesn't work, you will probably need to replace the laser.

So you're trying to backup one of your original games with your PC drives? Or are you using the 360 drive to make the backup?
Because with PC Drives, you need a specific Samsung drive; you just can't use any DVD Drive.
If this is the case, google KREON, and that's the drive you will want in your PC.
Though it's not necessary anymore, since you can use your 360 drive, if it has 1.6 installed. It's called 0800 Mode.

I got my iso and dvd file. i am just having trouble putting them on a disc to play. all the backups i got with the system work and i have yet to make one backup myself. thank you for the fast reply. im gonna do some searching on the 0800 mode too thanx

Ok, if you just have the iso and dvd, then you need to make sure that your Drive is able to burn DL DVD's. It will usually say on the front of the drive, just look if it says "DL" anywhere.
Also, use imgburn, and burn at 2.4x!

Yes it burns DL disc. i have made 10 coasters so far. everyone i put in console it says "open tray" or once in a while it says "multi media disc" but the backups that came with the system i got work fine everytime. never had a single problem with them. just confused. thanx for your help

I had similar problem upgraded img burn to 2.4.4.0 and every game worked fine.

Still no luck. used img burn 2.4.4.0 Even borrowed a buddy's dl burner and got same thing. not really sure what to try next. i have tried different drives. different disc and different programs. plus i even ran it through abgx and did an older game and passed all test and gives me the open tray error. so i tried 6 of the backups that came with the system and everyone worked with no troubles. if anyone has any other sugestions i would appriciate it and thanx to all that has replied and tried to help i thank you for your time. i have all my games backed up for my wii so i got a good idea how img burn works too just not sure what im doing wrong!

Ok what speed are you burning them at?! Because if it's above 2.4x that can be why you are experiencing issues!
You may also want to check your drive to double check what firmware is installed. Even though you said you reflashed to 1.6, it's always good to check to see if that is it!

man if only there were an easier way
i would back up 360 games myself too if i didn't have to freakin open my 360, set up drive to 0800 mode, rip, put back together my 360 (as i understand it)

Well I finally got it! and yep have been burning at 2.4x every time. Last night i moved my console and set it up vertically and bam the games work. Checked the 10 coasters i had and 6 of them worked perfect. but i do get a dirty disc error once in a while. And thanx to everyone for giving me things to try i really appriciate it.
