another way to do this is to just load your entire music collection to your computer, and connect it to your router.
connect your 360 to the same router, and it can connect to your windows media player's library via the "Windows Media Center" on your 360.
this feature is cool because it'll work with your Windows Media Center's playlists, and video files (as long as your videos are in wmv or mp4 format)

Actually I'm pretty sure the only way is to burn an actual audio cd, not an mp3/data CD and "rip" the audio CD to the hard drive similar to using iTunes or such to "rip" production audio CD's onto your computer.
It is not possible to use removable media to copy "mp3" audio (or any other audio format for that matter) to the 360 hard drive.
For a way to do this without wasting a ton of CD's see my first post.
harvardja is right, it is possible to "stream" audio to your 360, however, it does NOT copy it to your hard drive for future use. (And is EXTREMELY annoying for anyone running anything other than Windowz with WMP11)
Note: It is copied to a "temp" folder on your hard drive, however, is not accessible to the user.

If you are running, let's say *nix, it's very annoying to "stream" to the 360.

Last time I checked was 2007 and there was not a native version of tversity for *nix. I'm checking their website now to see if I can finally get a native working version.
I have *nix streaming to my PS3 just never could get it working for my 360. It would be nice to finally stop using flash drives to listen to music and watch movies.
Nope, still Windows Vista with UAC disabled or XP only. I did, however, run across a proprietary (30 day trial) program called twonkymedia that "works stunningly with Xbox360"
I WILL NOT, however, pay for this. Eventually I'll figure it out.
I have heard of some success with WINE (doesn't support trans coding) and VirtualBox OSE (requires a virtual install of XP), however, I don't think either will work for me.
