i posted a while ago about a hitachi dvd drive that wouldnt read backup discs, now i got my hands on a free console and wahoo it has a benq drive in it!
what i want to do is swap the drives around, so both xbox will have a working drive (I have an HDMI model xbox and a standard model which is why there is a need to swap drives over)
Anyways, how do I do that, from what i know so far, i need to extract a BIN file from both drives? save them to a place so i know which is which, then spoof the new drive using the old drives BIN file?
flamer.

Hi All:
You are going to have to take the original drive and use Jungle Flasher to "dump" the key from the drive and spoof the BenQ to "pretend" it's the Hitachi.
I'm not sure if it's against the rules to post jumps to tut's or to write out specific instructions so I'm going to keep it vague until I hear otherwise from a mod.
If a mod says it's okay I will post specific instructions to help out other's, however, until then I am going to PM you step by step instructions.
Thanks!

I'm pretty sure it's fine since guys like leerage have their own tutorials in their signature.

Thanks for your assistance and yes it is definitely OK to post in the main forums this kind of thing, it may also help someone else with the same dilemma!

Oh I should also have noted, I would also like to flash one of the drives with IXTREME 1.6 (the hitachi is already flashed) not sure if this makes a difference or not. I know how to do that just fine but just checking if it was going to cause issues the fact that its been spoofed.

Hi:
You won't be able to flash the Hitachi with 1.6. only 1.51.
The fact that it's been spoofed shouldn't cause any problems.
I'll get a tut written up and posted.
Thanks!

The basics:
1. Load original firmware into to source.
2. Load IX or stock firmware into target for the specific drive.
3. Click spoof source to target.
4. Get drive in vendor mode and flash
Going to be a bit different for Hitachis. But that is covered in the JF tutorial pages 65-75.

Hi All:
Sorry about the delay guy's. Here's the original PM I sent to kdn:
Quote:
Hi:
With BenQ drives you will need either an nForce chipset (AMD processor) or a VIA card.
Go to jungleflasher.net and download version 1.65.
Extract it using WinRAR or unrar.
Also download the Jungle Flasher Tutorial from the same page.
Take the side of the case off your computer.
Take your 360 apart.
Use the 360 to power your DVD drive.
Make sure a video cable is connected before you turn it on, otherwise it will turn itself off after a few minutes.
Connect a sata cable from the 360 DVD drive to your PC.
Run JungleFlasher.
Go to the Hitachi tab.
Follow the instructions in the manual.
If you need help just reply.
You only need to dump/read the firmware, not write.
SAVE THE LOG
Turn off your 360 and disconnect the drive from your PC and the 360.
Connect the BenQ drive to your PC and 360.
Turn on the 360.
Open JungleFlasher and click on the MTKFlash tab.
Follow the instructions in the manual to dump the firmware.
Open the firmware as the source (should be automatic)
For the target make sure you use iXtreme 1.6.
Click on "Spoof source to target"
Click on Manual on the lower right side.
Select the OSiG of your Hitachi.
The OsiG of your Hitachi will be saved in the log from when you dumped it.
Hit Save To File.
Go back to the MTKFlash tab.
Click "Write."
Wait about 2 minutes and you are done.
Enjoy!
If you need any more help let me know.
Thanks!
If you need a step by step for a different type of drive, or more help, feel free to reply and we (the community) will be happy to help you out with anything we can.
Thanks!
