In simple terms how do I copy a encripted dvd to a dvd. I am confused by the answers in other posted. like get an Aspi layer. I went to the site mentioned and I coulnot find it. I just want a simple program and exactly what else I will need in simple english to run a dvd to dvd transfer. I bought DVD- cloner for $59.99 and it dosent work. I have a new system with xp and new software should work. I want a simple solution and will pay for the right programs. I hate wasting time with playing computer programer.

I`m brand new at this stuff too. I downloaded and paid for DVD-Cloner and it doesn`t work for me either. It copies to the hd ok, but doesn`t burn. I`m in the process of trying to get my money back from them. There is a 30 day guarantee. If it doesn`t work for you, you need to try to get a refund. I was stupid for not trying it out first, but I was so excited after I got my burner, I read that it was the best, so I went ahead and paid for it without trying. BIG MISTAKE!! I still don`t know what the hell I`m doing, but this place has been fantastic. People will bend over backwards to help you and I`m finding that it`s not that difficult with a little practice and a few coasters. Take some advice and buy some RW dvd`s and don`t get it too big of a hurry to learn everything. I appreciate everyone`s efforts on this forum and I`m sure you will too. Take care.

Get AnyDVD. that'll decrypt all the DVDs for you. Afterwards, any copying program should be able to burn dvds without incident.

Decrypter says you need a ASPI LAYER ON YOUR COMPUTER AND GIVES YOU A SITE TO GO TO. i DONT SEE ANYTHING THATS AN aspi EXECPT PROGRAMS FOR nero> tHIS STUFF JUST SEEMS TO GO AROUND IN A CIRCLE.

You rip it, edit it if you wish, compress it when necessary (DVD-5's require no compresssion, DVD-9's do.), back it up to your HD then burn it to your DVD. That's it, One way or another, you'll have to do all those steps.

You didn't look too hard did you - typing "ASPI" *inundated me with sites and explainations.
(Knowing you are too lazy to look inundated up, it means "flooded")
You would have been given fantastic directions BUT your attitude has stopped that. We are more than happy to provide links and guides for you. Reading, you'll have to do that on your own :-)
Reading through these forum threads will truly answer your questions - I myself have posted 4 or 5 complete directions in the past week - search and you will find :)
(HINT: An apology might go a very long way to smooth Nephilim's and Jerry746's ferathers. It's never too late to make friends and both of these guys are really "Super Dudes".)

Ok heres my story, I bought a Lite-On 811S DVDRW drive. I purchased DVD-Cloner II for 59.00. No matter what i did it wouldnt work. I worked on this all night and went to work the next day. On my way home i thought i would buy a new drive that was a known name brand (Sony) Sure i paid $100 more than i paid for the lite-on but i wanted the ability to make a backup of my dvds in case i loaned out a dvd and it got scratched. Well i did nothing different except to install the new drive and its software. Bingo everything works as it should. I thought DVD-Cloner sucked until i used it with my Sony drive, it was the drive that sucked. DVD Cloner rocks, Sony rocks. This combo works for me with no issues whatsoever. Just wanted to post this since i used this site last night.

I'm new at this stuff also, but these wonderful people here have helped me so much and I have never made a real coaster, my first burn, however, had a bad spot in the middle of it so that it wouldn't play in the PS2, but the computer can read it.
These great folks told me to go with Ritek G04, and all my burns have been great so far.
When I first studied up on the subject, and was very concerned about the 'aspi layer' business, but I decided to go with DVD Shrink on my new WinXP-home (NTFS )computer, a Sony with a Pioneer 106 DVD burner, in conjunction with oem Nero 6 that I picked up on ebay. I have never had to mess with the aspi business. Infact, the only program I have had to use is DVD Shrink, and I have backed up over 3 dozen movies and even edited the 'bad' scenes out of a couple of them - all with the help of the great folks at this fourm.
DVD Shrink is so easy to use. My thanks to the 'brainiac' who created the program and gave it to the world for free.
I still have lots to learn, but I really just wanted to back up DVDs and let the kids use the copies and save the originals. That I have been able to do.

Hi This is clockman i have aDell Dimension 2350 series,with a intel pintum 4 processor, with a 48x max varbile c-d rom drive in the top bay and a 4xdvd+r/rw & cd-rv combo drive in the lower bay(no other bay avable).I would like to remove the c-d drive in the top bay and install a new dvd+r drive in it,s place or install a externais drive with a u.s.b hook-up. i want to burn & copy at the same time using dvd srink. i don,t like sending it to the hard drive first and then bura it to disc WILL IT WORK .Thanks The clockman.

Howdy clockman, Welcome to our little Club,
The short answer is - NO, it will not work ! -
I imagine your question is, ?Why do I have to backup to my HD ??
Think of it like you?re making a Peanut butter and Jelly sandwich. Everything you need is in one place, the cupboard. All your DVD files are in one place, the original DVD.
You need a place to put all your ingredients, the Bread, Peanut butter and the Jelly - so that you can assemble them into a sandwich, you use the kitchen table. You need a place to put all the IFO, BUP and VOB files you are taking from the original DVD, you need to assemble them into a VIDEO_TS folder OR you need to put them all together into an ISO image, you need a place to work, you need the HD.
You assemble your sandwich putting your Peanut butter and your Jelly into two pieces of bread. When you are finished you can one of two things. First, you can leave all the ?Fixens? on then table to make another sandwich sometime later OR, you can put it all away and have your table clear again. In DVD backup, we needed the HD to lay out all the IFO, BUP and VOB files and then to assemble them into a folder called your VIDEO_TS folder OR to put them all together onto an ISO image. When you are finished you can do one of two things. First, we could leave them on the HD to make another backup DVD later OR we can have them in a temp folder to be deleted and have our HD space clear again.
So, in a nutshell, you have to write the files you?re working with to your HD. The work you?re doing cannot be done in ?cyber-space.?
Another thing to consider, you should play your DVD in a DVD-ROM. It will save your DVD burner. It?s easier for your PC to read the disc and it is much easier on your DVD burner. The constant stopping and starting of your burner required to read a disc could cause overheating and premature wearing out of your DVD R/W drive. Sooo, use your DVD-ROM for reading and your DVD-RW for cooking.
If you have a single burner, use that to burn your CD?s and your DVDs. When burning a DVD, the hardest thing your PC does, you don?t have the resources to do a second burn unless you relish coasters and need quite a few of them to go around the house. Using your DVD-ROM to rip from is easy and time-saving. You place the original in your DVD-ROM and your blank disc in your burner and you don?t have to touch anything until your backup is finished :D)
SUGGESTION: Remove your CD burner and replace it with a DVD-ROM.
SUGGESTION: If you?re concerned about HD space - Consider an additional HD connected to your USB. Putting a 120 GB HD in will allow you to burn from and even save DVD files on a drive that can be un-plugged and taken with you to be re-installed to another PC when you travel or visit elsewhere -

Hi,I would recomend the use of DVD Shrink. It is by far the best dvd program out there and is free. You can keep all the menus and special features. Or you can edit parts aswell. it is very easy to use. It wont burn it to a disk but if u have a burning program that came with ur burner you can burn it from your hd to a disc. It is very easy. When u burn to the disc burn the video_ts & audio_ts folder. there is a guide available on afterdawn.

Hi squizluke, I know you mean well but we need to keep our posts accurate. They may be read by a ?Newbie? and we don?t want to mislead them.
DVD Shrink is Free and is probably one of the best free programs available. It is however, not the best program out there by a long shot. There are many programs in the lower price range (under $70.00USD) that are much better than DVD Shrink. Nero and DVD2One pop into mind just for starters.
