I recently tried playing GTA4 which is installed on my HDD. I now get an unplayable error message during the intro video before gameplay begins. Before the error screen pops up, the last two character screens lose sound.

I was under the impression that when you play games installed on the HDD the disc is only used for booting up the game stored.

Futhermore, I reburned a new GTA4 and the same exact thing happens.

Both discs play perfectly fine on another one of my iXtreme 1.6 consoles. I also deleted the game from my hard drive and reinstalled it from the same "unplayable" disc and it installs perfectly (100%).

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Correct. Both the ISO and burned DVD discs have been checked and verified with ABGX 1.0.1. with perfect results.

This is extremely weird. I just tried another game stored on my HDD and it played fine. I select "play from hard drive" and hear the disc spinning and then stop.

I decided to try GTA4 again to see if it was a just a freak occurrence yesterday but the same exact thing happened again. I hear the disc spinning then it stops when selecting "play from hard drive". Then when it gets towards the end of the intro character screens the music cuts off and the game error message pops up (unreadable disc). Judging from the sound of the disc drive which stops spinning I know its being played from the hard drive.

This is really crazy because I have played this same disc on the same console for over a year now with no problems.

However, this is the first time I've played it since the Live update a few weeks ago. Hhhhmmmm.

I wanted to add that I just tried playing GTA4 from the HDD with a retail disc in my ixtreme 1.6 Samsung M28 drive with the same exact results.

1. Selecting "play from hard drive"
2. Game boots up (disc spinning)
3. Disc stops spinning and the game starts as normal.
4. During the last three character screens I lose sound.
5. Game error message (unreadable disc) pops up before gameplay starts.

Very, very weird.

Once again, my backup has now been tested on three different ixtreme 1.6 consoles and it worked perfectly. Anybody?

sorry man, but I don't know where to begin honestly. You did all the steps I would have recommended.

When you run gta4 from the disc, not hdd, does it work then?

When I play both the backup and original from the disc I get the same results as well. It's really unbelievable. :-(

This was my next guess but I'm getting the same results running the game from both the hard drive and directly from the game disc. Thanks for the input though.
