Wii Won't Read Original Gamecube Discs. Please Help.

I have a softmodded Wii and up until recently all was fine.
Last night I tried to play a Gamecube game and it won't read the disc. As soon as I put the disc in and it tries to read it it just gets an error. It does it with all ten of my Gamecube games. My Wii discs work perfectly.
Is this a known error and what can I do to sort it out?
I have the Twiglight Hack installed and a few of the Launcher channels so it must be one of them that has messed with my Wii.
I really don't want to have to restore and go through all that malarky again if I can help it.
Any help would be appreciated.

well thats what happens first of all when you mod your wiis with custom ios / firmware. First off there are methods to reboot your wii fresh. Or wipe the state clean. Just google it you can read the tutorials and do it yourself. Afterwards with your wii fresh i would reinstall homebrew and wii stuff via banner bomber. Get the homebrew channel and install the newest updates via softmod. This should fix the problem you have.

if you dont want to take this route i suggest you install gamecube backup launcher and try to launch your games that way, but thats wierd considering you have to play your real games via backup launchers.

OK I'll give that a try.
Should I update to the latest firmware or is that pointless?
I think I had to change the IOS thing to get certain games running which may have caused the problem so won't that happen again?

its pointless to update to the latest firmware. Unless the tutorial you are following to wipe the slate clean requires it. Ive seen a couple of tutorials that worked that people have posted. Just be sure to follow it carefully otherwise you could brick your wii.

As far as changing ios. Perhaps you followed an old guide to doing this and new updates have come out and youve messed up or not installed the proper ios for this to work. Thats why you are having issues. With a clean slate wii you are abled to install bannerbomber and then get the new updates / patches / ios for the newer 4.0 or 4.1 softmod which would fix your current predicament. Ive done this to a couple of wiis that had your same issues. Old softmod out of date so i had to get new softmod data for it to work correctly.

Where's the best place to get the latest bb etc. My system menue is 3.4 atm. So many places have outdated files and info. It's hard to know what's what.

I would use the 4.1 softmod guide in my sig.

Since you already have it softmoded then follow the steps below in the order I have them.

cIOS38_rev14:

Update to 4.1 Firmware (use normal method to update).

IOS DOWNGRADER

IOS60Patched and NeoGamma R6: (Skip the NeoGamma part if you already have NeoGamma R6 installed).

Now try your Game Cube retail disc. They should work perfectly fine without any loader.

If you still have issues then try following the Game Cube Support: section of the guide to see if that fixes the issue.

Could you possibly tell me how to do it in a bit more detail? I'm not a complete numpty but I'm not so hot with all of this either and I don't wanna go bricking another Wii. (Yes I bricked one already) but that was me just being plain stupid and not following a guide correctly.

Don't know how I can make it any simpler. Go to the 4.1 softmod guide I have linked in my sig. Now download the 4.1 SOFTMOD PACK and extarct it to your SD Card. Now follow the sections of the guide in the order I gave them in my above post.

Followed the guide and it worked a treat.
Also I'm updated to v4.1 now which is an added bonus.

Even though I'm now on v4.1 firmware it still goes to the update thing when I put in Grand Slam Tennis. Is there a way around this or will I have to reburn it but patch it with wiibrickblocker first?

Just do the update on the disc. It shouldn't effect anything. If it does then just run IOS Downgrader again and run IOS60Patched.wad file.

I think the update is for Motion Plus.

If you want to block all updates then I would suggest installing Preloader .29. This will allow you to enable hacks and one of them is to block game updates.

Oh I see. So it can't brick the Wii then?
The game still runs if I run it through the Launcher first. It's just when it comes up on the channel at the start it says update.
I'll do it anyway.

As long as the game disc is the same region as your wii system then it will not brick.

If your worried about game updates then I would suggest installing Preloader .29 and enable the block game updates hack.

I let it do any updates from disc and all is well.
I've also got Gamecube backups working now which I never bothered with before.

Ah it appears that by letting Wii Sports Resort update it has stopped my Gamecube Backups from working so I've just run the CMIOS thing again.
When I run the game directly through Neogamma Channel it works fine without trying to update so I'll just do that.
