I recently received a Benq "VAD6038" (which is stated on the sticker of the drive)to replace a broken hitachi 46 drive. When I connect it to my computer and startup JungleFlasher, or DosFlash16 and 32 ver 1.8, the drive is being recognized as a "PBDS VAD6039-71110" and I get status 52. On a side note which does not relate to this, I was able to properly dump my firmware and key from the hitachi drive and have all the info. I've tried to use JungleFlasher 0.1.66b, DosFlash 1.8, 16bit and 32bit, and Dvdkey32. I've tried several different methods for putting the drive into Vendor Mode without any luck.

A little more on the manufacturing info of the drive,
Date manufactured: 11/3/2006
H/W ver: J-DAOA3
F/W ver: 62430C

I read on another forum that the VAD6039 is also the 1319L Lite-On, or a sort of hybrid between the two... but that's all the info I found on this beast.

Thank you for the help,
Seth

The 62430C was the first firmware revision of the BenQ. In Jungle Flasher, try clicking BenQ Unlock. That should get you access to the flash chip. If that doesn't work, click Intro/Device ID, a pop up will come up, Click OK. As soong as you click OK, shut the drive off and turn it back on. Should get access to the flash chip.

Alright, so "Benq Unlock" gives me status 54, and Device ID gives me status 52. Tried it with the drive closed and half open for both options.

What type of SATA chipset are you using?

I'm using ICH7 which is unfortunately all I have atm. I've read that the chipset works for others though. I understand the ideal situation would be to use a VIA chipset.

Yeah, I have ICH7 and I can't do a thing with it. I've changed all my BIOS settings and have never got it to work. I know on rare occasions I hear people talking about getting ICH7 but they must have a different type of motherboard or something. I ended up having to get the VIA SATA card with the 6421 chipset.

I found out on another forum that this drive is not compatible with any custom firmware, or unlocking software. It's known as the Beta Lite-On and there's nothing I can do with it unfortunately.

Ummm... all drives are unlockable/readable/flashable (with exception of the Lite-ON, you are only dumping the key).

Can you post a shot of the top of the drive?

sure no problem.

according to the user Podger on xbox-scene it's unfortunately impossible to currently dump the firmware and flash it, and there is currently no firmware which has been developed for it because "it is configured differently and gpio pins are wired differently". According to him the only usefulness of the drive is the ability to swap out the laser and other mechanical parts with a Lite-on.

The main thing is, that when my computer recognizes the drive, it's being recognized as a PBDS VAD6039-71110 and not a vad6038 like every tutorial out there says it should.

I really do appreciate you're time btw in trying to help get this figured out.

This is crazy. I haven't ever seen a BenQ like that. Thanks for the pics. The PCB board looks just like the Lite-ON PCB. With the the MT1319L chip, the only way to get the firmware is to de-cap. Like they did with the DG-16D2S Lite-ON. Even then, the firmware would probably be heavily encrypted. I'm guessing this drive didn't go main stream as to why the team didn't de-cap it.

lol, well that's pretty funny. Wonder why I received it from the company that I bought it from. No one else seemed to have any problems and the product was as described. Bad luck I guess.
