hi basicaly my little couson bought a wii from singapore and is a USA spec wii.

he has been using it in the UK with the loader disk for PAL games but normaly for games he bought abroud.

recently the wii has started acting up with any disks i put in it. it comes up with disk read error. please read the instruction manual to troubleshoot.

i dont understand why it wont read any disks right now. could it be the lazer?

any help would be apritiated

Could be a bad laser or dirty laser. Is it Hard or Soft modded?

yh i was able to go onto the settings and that but its not modded so how could it get bricked?

By a out of region update.

If he has been playing PAL games on a USA system and performed an update from 1 of the PAL disc then it could semi-brick/brick the system.

But if you can go into settings then it isn't semi-bricked/bricked.

I would then try to clean the laser. If that still doesn't work then replace the laser or buy a whole drive all together and replace it.

You said you use a loader to play the PAL disc. Is this the normal disc channel or is there some loader you use to load them?

What is the firmware on the system now?

they use a loader disk on the dik channel.

i think the firmware is 3.sumthing (sorry im not much help with that the wiis not with me)

If you recently updated the system firmware then the disc you use to load IMPORT games could be blocked. Have you tried playing a USA game without using the loader disc?

I think from 3.3 and above firmware the Big N has blocked IMPORT disc loader software from working.

So if you have a high enough firmware the IMPORT Loader disc and out of region disc probably wouldn't play (you would get the error your getting).

Try and find a disc you know for sure is USA and try it.

Also check the firmware. If it is 3.3 and above this very likely could be your issue.
