I've tried to burn a few backup games with varying success. Some games will burn fine every time I try. Other games will fail to burn every time. My main burner is a LG GH22LS30. I have made sure that the firmware is the latest available. I have also tried burning with my laptop (Toshiba laptop, Matshita DVD burner), still with no success. I have recently come to understand that the media I'm using, Memorex, is not of high quality and I've already ordered Verbatim discs to begin using. I have tried using both CloneCD and IMGBurn with the same results. I have checked the logs on both and there is no specific message as to what went wrong, only "burn failed". I have run the backup files through ABGX and they check out fine.
Why will some games burn successfully every time and other fail every time?

I appreciate the quick answer. I am not surprised that my media is to blame, and as I've said I already ordered quality stuff. My real confusion though is why will some games burn successfully every time and others fail every time? If the media were to blame wouldn't it be somewhat random on what fails and what succeeds?

Hit and miss because of quality.

This leads me to believe that it may not be a media issue. Any other ideas then?

Pretty for sure it is a Memorex issue. They aren't known for their quality. What they are known for is to make great coasters for your drink.

In no way am I trying to defend Memorex here, I won't be using them again, but should I stop looking here? While I know very little about this issue, I do know quite a bit about troubleshooting in general. Since some games I burn always fail (CoD 4 for example) and some always succeed (GH:WT) on different burning hardware why would it be the media? I guess I'll know for sure on Monday when my Verbatim's arrive, but I wanted to start the process of figuring this out ASAP. Sure, the Memorex's are crap, but are they the only problem?

You've done everything that we recommend, minus use verbs. You've tried different burners, ran it through abgx, the last real thing is the media then. I will also agree, that I think when you use verbatims, you shouldn't have that issue anymore. Be sure to post back and let us know though.

I'm somewhat confused by your comment homesick. You seem to be implying that I'm being wasteful in some way?

you should just keep asking what to do even though half a dozen senior members have given you the exact same solution. they might change their mind.

Well we are repeating ourselves. OK let me make it clearer-
The reason some discs are not burning correctly is because some of the discs on that spindle are poor quality THUS not being able to burn. Not all discs are the same even it's in the same packaging.
With Verbatims there is more of a quality control so you will get less, if any, "coasters". Comprende?

Right I totally understand what you are saying, I'm just not certain that you fully understand what I'm saying. I'm not trying to argue with you.
I understand that low quality media will randomly fail to burn successfully. That isn't exactly the problem I'm having though. Some files burn every time I try, regardless of media. Some files I attempt always fail, every time. There is no element of randomness to what fails and what succeeds as there should be with media being the problem. I am going to try the better media and see if it solves the problem.

If they're going through abgx okay then it is not a bad file. My guess, media issue.

Well, no sense talking about it much more. I really appreciate all of your input, thank you. I'll let you guys know on Monday (as long as my Verbatim's arrive) if the new media fixes it. Thank you.

Wow, I was about to post and ask about memorex DVD-R quality, as I only got 4 out of 100 to work... Guess I am going to get some Verbs now! Thanks. The discs I had had jagged edges and some I could see tiny bubbles between the disc halves. Very poor quality is right.

I was using 2.4, I think I have one memorex left, maybe 2. No harm in trying them, they're coasters if they fail and coasters if I don't use them...I guess I'm not really risking anything at this point.

Quick update, tried the last Memorex at 4x, failed. I think at pretty much the same point it always fails at. Will update again when I get Verbs.

i don't know but its seems you are having a horible time getting whatever it is that your burning.just a thought do you think its your burner, only reason im saying this is because.i have been using both memorex and verbatims and never really get coasters, and if i do its more than likely that my anti virus pops on to do a scan.and i have seen people post the log,so other members can see where your problem might be stemming from.but like i said just thought
