Arrested man had over 10,000 pirated films

A man in Sweden has been arrested this week over alleged piracy, after 10,000 pirated films were found on a server in his cellar.
Police in Västerås were following a tip from the Swedish Anti-Piracy Agency Antipiratbyrån (APB) and raided the man's house.
The arrested man is believed to be a member of a file sharing release group or a warez site uploader, but there are no other suspects as of yet.

60 x 1.5TB = 90TB
60 x $120 = $7200
He had AT LEAST $7200 worth of hard drives on one server...FULL of Evidence that will be used against him. This might be a real criminal trial, instead of the fake civil trials brought against people who share 30 mp3s.

Sounds like a rackmount config with SAS expanders...it probably had to be partialy dissasembled to be removed from the basement. Just think of having 10,000 movies available with nothing more than a click in full quality (not the netflix grainy quality)...then again, just think of the electric bill!
...I wonder if he got the money for the server from warez, or if he just had money, and liked distributing warez.

Regardless of the amount of movies he's pirating, why are we bothering with people like this when there's more f***** up things going on in the world. It's people's greed for money that makes them go after people like this, wanting to make more profit. - Pirate

They need to get their priorities straight, taking down all these people who share 5 things and not for money... But then you have people like this who built a huge server and was obviously doing it for some sort of money... Thats the piracy I hate, the people who are doing it for money...

But it makes you really wonder if half of the movies are black and white and early color. Also are half or all the movies available for Public Domain as well...

if he wasnt selling server access or dvd's he is innocent in my book. my friend has 7tb of divx movies just archived from the last 10 years all good flicks too i go to his house with a thumbdrive and leave a happy man :D

This is what cracks me up. Go look up any group and take a lot at their releases. Groups release thousands of files, whether it be progs or movies. Why is it so hard to believe that this guy hosts a server for a certain group or groups to dump their leaks to?
Releases originate somewhere. This just happens to be the dirty side that people want to not know about. In my eyes this guy is no more guilty or innocent that the people that use the services of release groups. If you are goign to defend the guy that has 30 mp3s on his computer or something more drastic liek the pirate bay founders then dont back away and say screw this guy. Thats just ridiculous.
What this guy is doing from what we know is nothing like what true pirate profiters do. Don't confuse this situation with bootleggers in some third world country printing off movies for profit. They're nothing alike.

I'm guessing he had neither of those. He chose..poorly.

Damn, that's alot of movies. Why go after people with only 10 or 20 songs when you got this guy who's ripping the whole library it seems. Shows you how warped our justice system is, when they'll probably slap someone's wrists for such a big find, but literally screw others when they got piddily little shit that doesn't even justify what RIAA/lawyers go after anyways. What's wrong with this picture anyways?

HDD's don't work like that you can fry the controller but you cant erase the information on the disks. with SDD's you could fry everything.
you could attach a pack of C-4 on the array but thats a bit drastic.

Just think, the cops go into the basement, flip what they think is the light switch, and they hear 70 shots go off at once, as the basement fills with smoke...that's the way to do it!

So let me get this straight, they think this one man is one of the leading people behind ALL pirate copying, in the world? Or in Sweden? I don't know about all of you, but if I was the one storing 10,000 pirated movies for all pirate copying in the world, I would have had some money to rig electromagnets around the room/doors at least. Flip the wrong switch and zap, and anything coming in to inspect there would be fried when it went though the door...Not saying I agree that pirating that many movies is ok or anything, but if you are going to do something that big, be somewhat smart about it.

No, they don't think this guy is behind all piracy, he was a high-level member of a large warez group, but he was not behind even one percent of the global traffic, and they know this.
From the info in the article, it seems that he has a lot of book smarts, but not much street smarts (his server was in his house).
