The Conduit Wii update safe??? PLEASE HELP!

Alright so I just bought the Conduit and I made a backup of it. It is the same region as my wii and I haven't updated my Wii in a while.
The update asks me to update to play the game and I want to update the wii since I don't use homebrew channel or any of that stuff.
I only use the mod to play my backup discs
Is it safe to update from the Conduit disc?
