Hi, I was just wondering what all is involved with replacing my 360's dvd drive. It's out of warranty and was thinking of replacing it myself. I have heard about the "green chip that is inside the drive itself that links it to the motherboard" and I was just wanting to know if there was a way to get around the whole flashing issue.

your going to have to flash it, and it really is pretty simple takes probably 5 minutes to do if that, as for the swapping chip thing i have heard that as well but im not certain if it works because i don't have spares of the same drive laying around lol

I would highly recommend flashing the drive rather than swapping over the PCB's. Are the drives you are swapping exactly the same model?

I was wondering the same thing I have a Hitachi 46b and was wondering if it has to be the same Model/Manufacture
example:
swap Hitachi 46b to Hitachi 46b
swap Hitachi 46b to Hitachi 79b
or even
Hitachi to BenQ
Thanks in advance

if you are planning on swapping pcb boards, then the drives have to be EXACTLY the same. ms25 with another ms25 hitachi 49 with another 49. but if you are replacing a hitachi, the last thing you should do is throw a hitcahi back in there. get a benq or a lite-on as they are the best ones.

So you can swap differnt drives thats cool. But what about the keys that are on each drive. What do you have to do to the original drive? Just copy it to the new one?

You will need to Spoof the new drive to look like the original. Take a look at the Jungle Flasher tutorial included with the program, instructions are included.
