I am buying a shell for a 360 hdd, I just paid for it, should get it in like 2 weeks. I plan to put my 120gb wd1200BEVS into it. I found a guide on the internet to help me do this. Here it is:
http://www.360-hq.com/xbox-tutorials-64.html
Anyways, I need to open up my computer to do this. However, since it's a laptop hdd, i don't think my computer has the proper SATA ports for it. I know my computer has SATA ports on it but i'm not sure if it will work for the laptop hdd. If it does then I guess I don't need to buy anything else. However, i'm not sure. Can someone tell me if I need anything? and if so, what will i need?

Open up your computer and check. If you have a SATA hard drive in your computer, it will work because the power connections are the same from 2.5 to 3.5.

Ok, if that's the case, then i'm sure it will work. My computer is pretty new (bought it a few months ago), so I know it has SATA ports.

Hey, i looked at your bootable usb thing. I tried using it to format my usb into something that can boot up dos. I looked into my usb drive after formating into FAT with selecting the "create dos bootable disk" option. After this, it seems as if there's nothing in my usb drive even tho space seems to be taken up (like there's something in there, I just can't see it). Does it sound like i did everything right? or did i miss something?

If you selected the folder "Boot Files" under the HP format tool, you should be good to go. The HP format tool will prompt you if it didn't find any files. If you want to double check:
Open up the USB drive through My Computer/Computer.
Go to Tools and then Folder Options.
Go to the View tab and untick the option that says "Hide protected operating system files".
You should see the 3 files now.

Right, I see these files:
Command
IO.SYS
MSDOS.SYS
Are those the files?

Yup, tick the "Hide system files" box and they will disappear. Re-boot your PC and select your USB drive. You might see a Win98 splash screen for just a second and then it should go to Windows 98 Copyright. You should have C:\ prompt at that point.
