You are going to have to boot Slax 2.1 to get the drive in Mode B then you should be able to use Jungle Flasher to flash.

PortIO doesn't have support for 64 bit OS. If you boot Slax 2.1, that will put the drive in Mode B. Once in Mode B, Windows will recognize the Hitachi and he can dump the firmware.

Before Jungle Flasher/PortIO was Slax. Slax was used to put Hitachi drives into Mode B. However, Jungle Flasher is now able to send a command to the Hitachi drive over PortIO to put it into Mode B. Unfortunately with PortIO, it does not have any 64bit OS support.

Now that I think about it and re-reading the OPs original post, he has a 46 Hitachi and I'm not for sure if Slax will put it into Mode B. There was the 2 wire trick but that was a little dangerous. I always used a connectivity kit to put the Hitachis 59 and lower into Mode B. So I hope Slax works in this scenario.

You can give it a shot. Are you using the XBOX 360 to power the drive?
