I am somewhat new to Xbox 360 modding and have some questions that I hope someone much smarter than me could answer.

1. Is it possible to load games onto the 360 HD or an external HD and then play these games directly from the HD?

1a. What kind of software/hardware does this require?

2. Could I load my own software onto the 360?

3. My end goal, in its most simple form, is this:

Turn on xbox 360
xbox 360 reads "Welcome to Chris' xbox please select a game"
The xbox then lists all games playable from the HD.
Simply scroll and select a game, no disk required.

Is this realistic? Can it be done with the right amount of hardware and a smart enough coder?

I've tried to sift through the mass amounts of info out there but my questions are specific and without understanding techy speak very well its hard to interpret some stuff. Can you suggest where I could continue my search?

right now, no, it isn't possible. The best thing we have is flashing your 360. Do some research on that.

custom menus like you desire aren't possible (though it might be with an expert and a custom chip along with long R&D). Im wondering when someone will find out what M$ attaches to the games that are available to DL from marketplace and mass distributes it so we may boot games from the local HDD on our 360.
