Was just curious as to the legal consequences of setting up a website for the repair and modification (primarily realting to the physical appearance) of consoles in a local area. I really really enjoy fixing RROD XBOX's as well as applying modifications such as fan replacement/XBOX case mods and wiring mods. Plus I've been looking at extending my web design skills on something a bit more complicated. But will I get smacked by the naughty stick for advertising such repairs?

I'm guessing xbox 360 firmware upgrades could be classed as illegal, but surely these other features mentioned are alright? Ta for any help anyone can give. :)

Sounds legit to me. You aren't circumventing any copyright protection by fixing RRoD, fan replacement, XBOX case mods, or wiring mods. With your DVD drive repairs, if you were to flash stock firmware back to the drive, I'm assuming it would be legal. Only drive you couldn't do that to is a Lite-ON.
