and is there any benefit of Pro vs lite. I just purchase a 120 Elite system, based on the yellow wire it seems I have a Liteon. How can I tell it if i can use the probe or not as i read somewhere that the probe cant be used on a specific type of Liteon drive. thanks much.

You might want to go ahead and open up the Elite. Reason being there are 2 different firmware revisions of the Lite-ON. The 74850C requires the probe. The 83850C does not require the probe.

In your situation, the DVD connectivity kit is optional. However, the DVD connectivity kit does make it easier to do as you don't have to have your XBOX 360 as a power supply and the kit has an on/off switch which comes in handy. Here is a link to a 83850C tutorial: 83850C tutorial

Off topic -
Lookin at the 83850c manual for the first time and looks nice!! After drive is in it's initial 1/2 tray status, do you manually (no power) put it in full open and back to 1/2 status on your own?
On topic -
I bought my connectivity kit from modchipcentral.com. But also just noticed on 360xtractorpro.com, they are recommending not to use a CK kit yet on the new drives....
sum1 already had stevedawg and stevedawg85 is longer than 10 chars :(

the way i did mine, was turn on drive, start JF and get the drive recognized. then hit the get lo83 button. turn drive off, put in half tray, turn drive on hit ok, then pull drive all the way open hit ok. turn drive back off, put in half tray, turn drive on, hit ok, put in full tray, hit ok and then you're done.

so basically, all i will need is the sata cable, power to the drive and the required software to flash the drive. Is that correct?

I've followed all the advise. Took me awhile, but i finally flashed it. I had an issue after the erase, that the console powered off, and gave me no vendor info, so i hit erase again, still no vendor info, so i did resend and it provide vendor info listed in the provided documents and wrote back to the device.
How can i tell the drive flashed properly if i dont have a backup to test out. The system powered on and was able to play a dvd back.

playing a dvd is no help, as any console will play a dvd, with or without FW on it. if it plays originals then you should be alright. if you dont have an original, well the only way to tell is to get one, or burn a game and see.

assuming you got a legit key when you dumped the FW, you can reflash. if you didnt, then you are pretty much SOL.

Since you don't have any backups, put in an original game. If it plays that, then you are good. If it takes you to a white screen that says "Put this game in an XBOX 260 Console", you have a problem.
