I've heard about people doing this to get a cheap XBOX 360. Was just wondering whether it is actually possible to fully fix a RROD Xbox? Checking out a one ring E74 on Ebay. How hard are these to fix?
Just think it would be nice to have a spare 360 that if fixed I would probably flash it with iextreme.
Any help appreciated.

If you have some technical know-how then you can fix them. Taking 360s from Ebay is a gamble though as they may be beyond repair. One of the methods that people do is to use a heatgun to re-flow the solder on the chips. A better method though is to use a full-sized re-flow station for maximum performance.

You can try some of the cheaper methods such as replacing the paste or doing the penny trick if you are so inclined. Or for the hell of it do the towel trick. Doing the cheaper methods may just temporarily fix the 360 for a short time while the other methods may fix them longer.

There is a problem with these

a) Most people do the towel trick and completely fudge it
b) There are lots of people that do it, and a lot of people that don't know what they are doing, therefore they fudge it up that way and put it back together

Theres a high chance that if you don't know what your looking for, that you'll get a expensive lump of plastic.

Hope this helps

Must mention, a reflow machine can cost 4 figures

You could easily pay off the re-flow station by just fixing other people's 360s.

i've heard about the xclamp fix and the heatsink fix. Are you saying that these cheap fixes are temporary?
I just think it would be nice to have a spare system for playing backups etc. that way it wont matter if it gets banned. Yeah I wouldnt be suprised if some people try to fix them themselves but completely mess them up then sell them for £30 on ebay.

The Xclamp and heatsink fix might not work. It might need a reflow of the board.

You can try, but you might just end up loosing more money

Look at it this way. If you were to buy a reflow station, you could buy a few Xbox's instead for the same money. Unless you intend to do a good few of them, it's not worth it.

"Has been fixed before (original x-clamps still in place )."

What do you intend to do to it?

Its been fixed but the seller says that he flashed the drive which created the error.
The xbox now has the 0102 error which is to do with poor solder points and ventilation. It is fixable i think. What are your thoughts?

I ain't no expert, however I would say, don't touch already xclamped boxes.

If you're confident enough and know what you're doing go for it.

Flashing the drive wrong could cause E65 but 0102 is a GPU problem, flashing a drive wouldn't give you a cold solder joint and report a GPU error, that doesn't make sense.
