sbajwa, Welcome to our Club -
Very happy you're doing sooo well :-)~
Best of luck,
Pete
BTW, using DVD43 with DVD Shrink is like using soap with soap or water with water. DVD Shrink does the job by itself. It does help with Nero recode 2, Nero needs the help and DVD43 is a good choice. Should you have trouble with it I suggest using DVD Decrypter as a backup :D)

Tkank Pete for correction. My statement was wrong.Shrink works without DVD43.Actualy DVD43 is always open in my system tray, however as you mentioned, Nero needs that help. I am also following your directions, where Shrink fails, Decrypter is there to help.
One thing more, many posts are to remove Roxio from system. I have both on my system with only one modification Nero InCd uninstalled. Both are working fine and I feel interface and working for Data Cd/DVD(not Video DVD) with Roxio is more trouble free

i followed the instruction you have given previously and searched a few things that i think might solve my problem. i have toe 107 pioneer burner, Nero 6, DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink, and when the image is completed with shrink, a problem occurs in decrypter (power calibration error). this is the first time ive ever tried to burn a dvd, and from what i gather it is a media problem. i'm using Laser 4x diskc theyre pretty cheap, so if i buy one good brand disc to see should that fix the problem?

sbajwa, there are some who have both on their system and all is OK - We never fix what isn't broken :P)
The vast majority experience difficulity, to them we recommend the severing of ties -
Glad everyone is happy in your house - :P)
perkp87,
Try "branded" Verbatim or "branded" Ritek G04's, both are good choices :D)
To you both, if not said to you before, Welcome to our Happy little home here at A/D - we're glad to have you here -

Hello everyone. I'm new to the site and incredibly impressed by the knowledge and professionalism many of you seem to share.
Hopefully, as my burning days grow longer, I'll be able to share new information as well.
First question, I've setup DVD Shrink to rip and compress a dvd and DVD Decrypter to burn it. I notice many are using Nero to burn rather than DVD Decrypter. Is there any reason for this?
I'm using a new dvr-107 burner on an AMD 3200+ w/1gb dual channel ddr400. <--don't know if you guys need this info or not.
Thanks a bunch. Looking forward to chatting with you all.

for7v800, It's just a matter of preference. Either combination will work. I've done both and notice no difference. But some don't want to purchase Nero, so DVDShrink and DVDDecrypter is a great alternative.

I agree, Shrink and Decrypter are probably the two best freewares out there. When I first started that's what I used. But with the choices and versatility of Nero ulta 6 it's well worth the 59.00 ( I have since seen it for 49.00 ). You can make very professional looking back-ups with working menus and it's easy to use, a BIG plus in my book. But, to each his own.....Good luck

Tested backup of Peter Pan made using Shrink/Decrypter. All menu options worked. Just don't want people to think they have to get Nero to produce a 1:1 backup. Don't get me wrong, Nero is a great program, and very versitle. But as far as dvd backups Shrink w/ Decrypter works just a good.

hey flip218, sorry bout that, after reading what i wrote i can see where you got that idea. I wasn't saying that at all. I just meant I have a lot more options and designs working with Nero all under one roof. Decrypter is what got me into making back-ups to begin with, it's a great piece of software. I still use it. Next time I'll read what i write a little more carefully before i print.

Hi, Everybody,
I watch this thread every day. It's incredibly informative. Thanks for all the info. I'm now the DVD burning pro in the family. LOL
I do have a question. I'm using DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter to rip and then DVD Decrypter to burn. This works very well. Haven't burned a coaster since I started using it. However, I've noticed that all my DVD's seem to be a bit "dark", as if I changed the darkness/lightness settings. Sometimes colors seem too intense, or the dark scenes are almost too dark to see. This has happened on 2 different computers, so I don't think it's the video card. I've never seen this mentioned before on this thread. Couldn't quite figure out how to search on the whole forum. Any ideas, Oh Wise Ones?

Hey fellows and gals:
I used Decrypter and Shrink but when Shrink finished it would not automatically pull up Decrypter to burn.
What have I missed as I used to burn with Decrypter.
I guess I am overlooking something.
I unchecked burn with Nero. But had to go to Nero to burn it since Shrink did not go auto to Decrypter

Big Orange:
I thought I would use Decrypter to burn since I was useing it to remove the copy protection.
I did get a successful burn by useing Nero though so I might just click the option to burn with Nero and leave it like that.
I just wanted to know how to make Shrink automatically burn with Decryptor since others in the forum say they did that.

The short answer is when you hit the backup button then choose save to ISO then you check the burn with decrypter box below.
When setup properly Shrink/DVDdecypter is the simplest one click backup. I still use it the majority of the time.
Nero adds the ability to rip the movie and working menus without the extras.
Nero is also my favorite for the occasional burning from video ts folders.
I have been using Alchocol 120% for tracking and burning if backing up more than one movie or using different Image types or backing up music.
It allows for testing of a mounted image without losing track of what you are doing.

Hey TMcCallie, forgot to mention I use Anydvd in the background to decrypt. So you just open shrink and I like to re-author keeping only the special features I want since I don't care for a lot of the extras. After all, the movie is what you're really going for. Then I don't have to compress(a lot of the time) and keep the quality as good as my back-up source. Then with Nerovision Express 2 I can create a very professional menu tailor-made with my own personal choices ( the possibilities are endless). In the end it all works, just depends on what you want. Happy Blazing!

First I want to say great information in this thread. Thank you all for you input.
As many others, I am new to this. I burned my first disk last night using Shrink, Decryptor, and the trial Nero version. I extracted the movie only with re-authoring. I used TDK media and when it runs out I will swith to you recommendation of Ritik.
Is there a way to use re-authoring to selerct only the main title, but still mantain the ability to select chapters or anything else I may want to include on the disk.
Or, do I need to burn the entir disk to accomplish this. Thanks again!

Hi guys - tried to get rid of the extras by using Shrink in the "reauthor" mode and dragging the movie to the DVD Structure side. When I tried to move the menus to that side, it said that the menu would no longer be functional, and only show up as images?. Am I missing something?
Also, in keeping up with this thread, I have seen people say that you need Nero to burn, and others say that they burn with just Decrypter/Shrink. What's the real deal?
Lastly, got rid of Roxio - as advised, tried using Nero for CD and, boy, was that ugly! Wouldn't pick up anything except mp3 and wma files (not windows media files?) - so the songs that I copied directly from my own disks to remix weren't recognized, and couldn't drop/drag to get the order that I wanted. Any recommendations for a "Roxio-like" program that won't freak out with the other burning programs?
Thanks, you guys - this is the one place I do get answers. Thanks for helpins us newbies!

To: jmc318, if I understand you, when you're in shrink go to re-author and just pick the movie file, then if it's under 4.38, go directly to copy files, if it's over then you must hit re-encode and compress. You must also pick a destination folder for these files. After shrink is done close it and open Nero. I have never tried the trial version so I'm not familiar with what it has. if I'm following you, you now want to create a menu with chapters for this movie. Go to Nerovision Express 2 and open it. Then open your folder in nve 2 and your VOB files will come up. Select them one at a time and let Nero do it's thing. When you're done hit next and you will go to the menu where Nero will auto-detect chapters or you can create them yourself. Here you can create menu backgrounds(or import them) and buttons, and so on and so on... just play around. When done you can then preview your menu, if all's well, hit next and burn. If you don't want to create a menu go to Nero express click and drag all your files to the VIDEO_TS folder and hit burn. Afterthought- when in shrink you can compress the entire disk(special features and all) if it's not too large and then do a simple burn in Nero express and you will have a functional menu from the source video. I don't like to compress too much because of video quality loss. To: mia33, hopefully this will help you also, and YES you can burn with Decrypter and Shrink, both are excellent freewares. Don't understand why you're having problems with cd burning in Nero. I do know Nero and Roxio are NOT compatible, are you sure you removed ALL Roxio components? Hope this helps, I'm a newbie too, just trying to return the favor from when I was in need of help. Good luck....

Hi there TmcCallie, Welcome to our little Club,
Quote: I used Decrypter and Shrink but when Shrink finished it would not automatically pull up Decrypter to burn.
What have I missed as I used to burn with Decrypter.
I suggest that you go to the bottom of the first page of this thread and read the guide I put there - compare each and every setting I list there and you?ll be a ?Burning Madman? :P)
Quote: I thought I would use Decrypter to burn since I was useing it to remove the copy protection
a ?Big No, No? there Tom, permit me to guide you ?into the light -
There is a big difference between the way different programs do their job.
Think of DVD Decrypter as a Circus Strongman with a sledgehammer who stands in the middle of the room smashing the encryption and miscellaneous DVD IFO files flatter than a pancake with no rhyme or reason except that everything must be flat.
DVD Shrink is more like a craftsman, picking apart the encryption and laying everything out so that later it can be reassembled in its proper order.
When do the differences show up ? They show up with some DVD?s like Disney?s where the IFO files have to direct the player in and out through the twists and turns of the many VOB files that we all have seen and wonder why that 5.9GB DVD when taken apart in DVD Shrink re-Author or recode2 turns into a 9.2GB of files. It shows up in every DVD filmed in a dual angled mode where again, the IFO files are needed to guide the player from beginning to twisted end of the movie. Smashing with DVD Decrypter all the time can be self-injurious. By that I mean we may well be left without a guide to take us through the twists and turns of the DVD to find our way from beginning to the end of our favorite movie. Using DVD Decrypter on these DVD?s results in sections left out of the film or a part coming before it should. One example given me was one section of the film was played in French with no way to turn it ?round until the next ?angle? of the movie came around (Bugger, that).
And THAT Boys and Girls is why we use DVD Shrink all the time and only resort to DVD Decrypter when we come up against a ?Tough Nut? that needs ?a-bit-?O?-Smashing? because the ?Craftsman? got stuck on a particular tough knot that requires that rare ?Smashing? approach.
?and the Good Huntsman led the little boy and his lovely sister out of the deep, dark woods and into the sunny brightness of the flower strewn meadow, and they all lived happily forever after in a day.?
THE END

Howdy ?Bigorange, I don?t mean to interrupt but you?re doing far too much work and overlooking the oblivious - Nero?s recode2. As long as you?re running AnyDVD in the background, why not just go directly to Recode2, it works almost like DVD Shrink but keeps your menu functions so that you don?t have to go back and redo anything - ALL MENU FUNCTIONS REMAIN THERE :D)
Give it a try, you?ll love it, - - - Really !!

Hi mia33, and a Great Big Club Welcome to you too -
No, you?re not missing much - If you just want the entire disk (minus the languages you?re never going to learn to speak like, Outer Mongolian or Eastern Himalayan Yak) OR if you want just the movie only and don?t need the menus then DVD Shrink is the ticket. But if you like your menus after re-Authoring, then Nero?s recode2 bears looking into. I works much like Shrink so you?ll feel right at home - at the risk of being redundant, a good plus for having Nero on your desktop - LQQk up on this post for links to Nero, but then you knew that didn?t you - ? (lol) (Just havin? a bit ?o? fun with the bird today)
Cheers all,
Time for ScubaPete to take a break - heh, heh -

Thanks Pete, If you say so I'll give it a try. Love this forum! PS- I had read in more than one instance that nero recode was a suck program and to stay away.
Afterthought- it's kinda fun creating menus with your own personal touch...

Quote: However, I've noticed that all my DVD's seem to be a bit "dark", as if I changed the darkness/lightness settings. Sometimes colors seem too intense, or the dark scenes are almost too dark to see.
Hi compgran, welcome to the ?Group Grope? (seems like it sometimes, Heh, heh) -
Sorry I didn?t get to your question before this -
Sorry but I don?t see that there?s anything that could be making the colors ?Darker?. When too much compression is used the pictures get ?Blurry? or ?Pixilated?.
(Knowing that when this is read a bunch of ppl either they are going to say they see it with a regular backup. I truly find that hard to believe - pixilated DVD?s are from poor media or too large a file, burning to the inexpensive DVD?s edges.
When I say too much compression is when I compressed ?Bruce Almighty? from something like 3.9GB to (are you ready for this ?) 849MB - say WHAT ScubaPete ?? Yep, using DVD Shrink and running it through about 4X, I got it to 849MB. It was just the movie, from the first screen (the radio Alarm) to the last (fading picture of the Homeless man ?God?). Now THAT ladies and gentlemen is what I call compression !!
(Anyway, nothing about darkening color - could it have been just that movie ??)
anyway, cheers all -
Pete
