Hi Guys,

Flashed my first Lite-On dg-16d2s drive today using CK3/Probe, Jungleflasher 1.66, iXtreme 1.6, PortI/O on WinXP and all went well retrieving the key and the various .bin files, Dummy.bin etc.

When I erased the drive, again all went well and I loaded the spoofed files from the buffer to be written to the dg-16d2s. The firmware details matched up, so when in Vendor mode I pressed the write button and it 'seemed' to successfully write the new firmware and verifies just fine. "Ok's" everywhere!

However, when I attempt to 'read' the firmware all I get back is "Cannot Read Drive Key F/W may be corrupt". It's like the flash failed to write anything to the drive. Tried it a few times, same story. Suffice to say, no games work when the drive is back in the console.

Running the Dummy.bin through DSDB Fixer it states:

Error on PCB serial data check: PCB sn doesn't start with 'S4P8' -> 'S4P933100000082712'!

Is this drive/Xbox now totally screwed? What are my options, if any?

Thanks for any advice guys.

Dan

load your dummy.bin back into JF and tell me what your key looks like. you can leave off the last digits as all i need to know is the general layout of your key. this way we can determine if you even had a legit key to begin with.

Come talk with us on efnet at #elitemods !!! or just click ME

alright, well good news is you have a legit key it looks like. so if worse comes to worse you just have to buy a new drive and spoof it.

check leerages guide on flashing the lite-on drive (not the 83850c drive) as you dont have this one, and follow it. you can start at the section where you autoload your firmware into JF. however, you will manually have to insert these. so put your dummy.bin into the top one, for the bottom one, load in the ietreme 1.6 repack file that should be in your 'firmware' folder in the JF application folder. then hit the spoof to target button, and proceed with the guide.

that should solve your problem. if not, then you can always try dosflash. i would be no help on that as i have yet to use it, but i know some people on here have.

There should be no "X"s in your DVDkey, unless you did that.

K, if you open up your Lite-ON drive, take a look at the sticker on the PCB board. This is where you should see the S4P8 or 9.

You are using DSDBfixer.exe right? Maybe try using JF to repair the serial info.

Yeah I'm using DSDBfixer to view the serial information. Hate to be a noob but I can't see anywhere to repair the serial info in JF!

JF would prompt you if there was missing serial info. Load your dummy bin and make sure the box that says "Advanced View" is ticked. You should then see a serial tab. The info should be there.

Ah, I see. I checked the serial info in JF (no serial warnings BTW)against the physical labels on the drive and they all match up.... except for the 'DVD Label' which has an extra digit on the end, a '1'. Is that normal? I can't add it in via DSDB Fixer as it's reached the character limit! Any idea what the "PCB sn doesn't start with 'S4P8'" means in DSDB? Thanks dude.

I don't think the extra 1 should hurt. DSDBfixer was made right after IX 1.5 was released. I'm guessing they didn't expect to see S4P9 in the serial info. If JF doesn't give any issues with the dummy bin, you should be good.

Thanks for the help leerage and wabashman - managed to finally get it flashed correctly using Dosflash after booting from a USB key. I'm thinking the Lite-On 74850C A0A2 and JungleFlasher just don't get on too well for some reason.

Also, just for future reference, what are your thoughts on using the USB on the CK3 as opposed to the Serial interface - are the Lite-On keys more reliable via the Serial connection?

Thanks again guys.

Glad you got it resolved. The A0A2 is the second hardware revision of the Lite-ON. That is probably why you have a S4P9. Just an issue with DSDBfixer and not you.

I have always used serial and I have never had an issue. I always spoof to another drive first before flashing the Lite-ON to guarantee the key is good.

As my heart fluttered a few times doing the Lite-On, I can definitely say that spoofing the key to another drive first is excellent advice! Something I'll be doing from now on, don't want to go through that worry again! Thanks dude.
