Hey guys. Haven't been on afterdawn in ages, but I was just curious about something...
I've modded MANY an Xbox, even done a few PS2s. I recently got a PSP(about a month ago), and it's the PSP slim, the 3001 to be exact. The Ratchet and Clank bundle version. Shortly after I bought it, I synched it with my PS3 and logged into the Playstation store to download my copy of Metal Gear Solid that I bought on the PS store. In order to do that, I had to update the PSP. (that little, "an update is required message). My problem now, is that it's the dreaded 5.51 version of the firmware. To make a long story short, this is my question(and no, I haven't TRIED it yet, for fear of bricking the unit):
MY PSP version can't be pandorized, hence why I haven't attempted this, as I'd have no real way to unbrick it. But my question is this: Since I don't know exactly how the PSP software works, and Sony refuses to tell you how to revert to an older firmware(for obvious reasons. They claim it's "impossible to uninstall an update"), what would happen if one say...manually uploaded an update of an older firmware? Would it not just overwrite the current version? Or is there some ridiculous "lock" in the 5.51 version? I figure, especially knowing my luck, that it'd brick the PSP. So I was just curious. I would imagine it's impossible, or else it would've been done by now.
And another thought...does anyone know exactly what file types or formats are used for the PSX version of games from the Playstation store to the PSP? Would it not be possible to take a ripped PSX game and convert it to that format that is "universally recognizable" by the PSPs? Just curious. Thanks again guys, you're always awesome.
