I now have 3 consoles, (2 in repair) and 1 power brick. Am I right in assuming that I should only use the Xbox that came with the original PSU, with that PSU, because different Xbox's use different W's?

Well, you need to make sure that your power supply provides atleast the minimum amount of power required by your 360. Now I believe if your power supply gived more power, it will still work fine, your 360 would just not use the extra power. However, I've never done that. Someone else can chime in and offer their experience if they have.

But to be safe, I would only use matching power supplies with the console that uses that supply.

The 360 is like a PC, it will only use what it needs. You can put a 203W power brick on any console and will be fine.

The power supplies are "forward compatible". The older ones will work with the newer consoles. As long as it fits into your 360, it'll work.

Hi sorry for digging up and older thread but i have a quick question thats on subject....

Can you tell what PSU you are suppose to use on an xbox just by looking at the case??

I say this because i am loosing track of parts, i have loads of units and power bricks laying around at the moment and i sometimes sell units without power bricks which just adds to my collection.

Ive tied just looking at the xboxes but cant find no difference realy.

Can some please explain if there is a way to tell by just looking at the unit?

I just asked this same question on the irc chat room today. On the back of the Xbox where the serial number is, there should be some numbers like "16,5a 5v". So if it has a 16 its a 203watt a 14 175Watt and a 12 150watt
