so like i said, i'm a newby. I'm thinking about getting a mod chip installed but I want to find out what I need, and if my computer is even compatable to do what I want.
I pretty much want a mod chip so I can download and play burned games.... Big surprise right? Hope i'm not suppost to keep that hush hush. My first post....
So yeah. I got a guy that will install a chip on my 360 for 30$. Don't know if thats a deal or not? My computer is a dell laptop with a dvd rw drive. Think i have 60 gb hardrive and 512 ram... Not sure about the processor but it's a pentium. Prolly a 1200 or 1800 or something. It's a few years old now.
So yeah. heres the questions. Where do I get the games? Torrentz? What programs would I need to burn them? Are the programs free? What kind of disks? Is it even possible? Any help would be appreciated...

You don't want a modchip.
You need to flash the 360 DVD drive with firmware to allow you to play a burned game.

You are likely NOT getting a mod chip installed. What your friend is doing for $30 is "Flashing" your dvd drive. Basically in the simplest terms, the flash fools your xbox into thinking all games are authentic "not burned" and it allows them to play regardless of origin. You will be able to burn your own games with a DVD RW/DL burner. $30 bucks is a good price if you don't trust doing it yourself. The first time I did it, I probably would have paid someone to do it, but Im glad I learned anyway.

If your wanting to learn then you need to start here
this is the sticky that says read here before posting (which everyone seems to miss).
I would also read the rules and be careful about what you ask since pirating is considered illegal and not condoned by this site.

If you don't want to make coasters your better off making backups yourself that way you'll get a 100% success rate, just look thru the 360 forum of how many download an iso then find they make coasters

You'll know what your dvd drive can burn buy going to Dell and typing in your service tag or by looking up your model # and then checking the specs. If you are really looking to get into this you will need to do a lot more reading and personal research. People don't mind helping, but they will also be easily annoyed when people ask questions that are ultra N00bish. The way I got started was to make Google my right hand and Youtube my other right hand.....thats right, two right hand. There are countless Demonstrations of people burning games and modding drives.

You could put a DL disc in the drive and see if it pops it back out. Also it should be listed on the front of the drive, one of the little icons something like dvd+r DL

There's a good tool from the Nero site, which lets you see what your DVD drive is capable of, i'll try and dig it out for you now.

If your pc is a few years old and can burn dl dvds you'll probably still need a new dvd drive anyways. I have a dell from 2003 that had a dvd-dl burner but I had to get a new one so the 360 could play backups. The old one burned dl just fine but the 360 could never play them. Just a heads up. My new burner is an LG GH22LP20 which I got for $30 at amazon. Any new brand name dl burner will do just fine if you do need a new one. Most of them are in the $30 range or less if you find ones on sale.
