Greetings to all. I am having a problem with my 2001 Slim psp. I'm on CFW 5.00 m33-6. My situation is that when loading games and homebrew through the XMB, the psp freezes at the psp logo and stays that way until I turn it off. After about 5-6 resets, the games and homebrew may finally work. The wierd thing about it is that I have IRshell 5.0 and when I turn on the autoboot function in recovery menu, I have no problems what so ever loading games, homebrew, etc. I have formatted the flash, both physical and logical through DCv8, and reinstalled 5.00 m33-6 several times to no avail. I have run IDstorage manager, key cleaner to make sure that keys were not corrupt and all checks out ok. I have even run DCv8 idstorage regenerator with the same problems occurring. (I did make a backup of my keys and restored them each time i did anything with the id storage). The only problem that I can think of is the UMD drive interfering with the ms0: read function. My UMD is shot and reads on its own whether or not a disk is in the bay. I disconnected the UMD drive ribbons and the freezing still occurred. I used a file noumd.prx and still have the problem. Anyone have a clue as to what i can do other than getting a new psp or constantly using IRshell? Irshell is good but the plugin support is very limited especially when it is set to auto boot mode. I have a very limited amount of plugins enabled and got rid of cxmb as I thought that might be the culprit. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I tried to install 5.50 gen-b and I either get a 0xffffffff error or it gets to 99%, goes back down to 84% then progresses and constantly goes back to 84%. In essence, it never finishes the installtion. I did a test to see and the install never completed even after 20 minutes. I also reformatted the memory stick through the psp, windows xp and windows vista with the format drive option and the mspformat tool (which i can only get to run on XP). Is it possible, although highly unlikely, that during cfw install, the .RCO files for the xmb get corrupted? This could be why the games are not loading correctly. I am just as stumped as you cybertick. Thank you for your assistance. Let me know if you find out any info. I will continue to google, bing, and youtube it for a solution.

I still have not found any info on the problem. I saw that one other person on the forum has the same issue that I do. Any thoughts as to what may be the problem? Still drudging forward looking for an answer.

I am having the same problem. I cant even load a firmware update, it just freezes. I cant get the auto boot to function of irshell to work. I have never used irshell, but I would if it makes my psp work. Are all of these symptoms of a broken umd drive? How hard is it to replace the drive?

I don't think that this has to do with the umd drive since i have totally removed mine. What firmaware are you running? Make sure that irsautoboot.prx is in the SEplugins folder and that your VSH.txt file has ms0:/seplugins/irsautoboot.prx set to enable. If you are on CFW, then ensure that you have the latest version of IRShell and that you have the folders in the correct place on the memory stick.

I have researched this problem a little. It seems that the umd drive causes these errors and that is what ConsoleZombie confirmed. This is the first PSP I have owned with a hardware issue.

I am running 5.00m33-4 and have IRSHELL 5.0. The SEplugin and IRSHEll folder is in the root of the memory stick. I do have the irshell eboot in the psp/game folder. I can enable the autoboot plugin in recovery but It freezes when I exit. When I turn the system back on it has a black screen. I have to pull the battery and it turns back on just fine with memory stick out, memory stick in=black screen. When I disable the autoboot function in recovery the system will boot up with the memory stick in. The eboot still will not launch in xmb, freezes at white psp screen.

Do I need usb host to install this? I can not get this to work on my other psp either. Do you know of a step by step tutorial? Does sleep mode work for you in Irshell?

You have to make sure that the file "irsautoboot.prx" is in the SEplugins folder. This could be the reason why it freezes. Also, try to update to m33-6. I also have hellcats recovery flasher installed. Although it may seem like alot of trouble, you can use that to boot into irshell. Make sure that after intalling hellcats app, you hold r trigger to boot into the recovery menu, choose the otion to boot program at "/psp/game/recovery/eboot.pbp". After a few seconds the app should load and choose "launch anither app from /psp/game". This will list all of the apps in the "game folder" on the memstick. I would suggest using the latter method as a last ditch resort if you are unable to autoboot irshell. Are you able to connect the psp tou your computer to view the files on the memstick through usb mode?
As for the umd drive being the culprit, I will continue to search and find out if this can be circumvented some other way.

Thank you for all of your help. I was trying all of your ideas and none were working for me. I have something loose, maybe some sodder joints. I read on another forum to twist it. I thought it was a joke, but it actually worked for me. After about 50 tries to load files I figured that it was worth a shot. It loaded the 5.00-6 update and irshell. I am currently on irshell and plan to stay on irshell.

Thanks to romeod123 and fabledj18 for your input. Your ideas may come in handy in the future.

I have the same problem and have tried the same as you: reinstalling custom firmware, restoring idstorage, and even using official firmware and am getting freezes. The only way i have found to solve this is to install a firmware before 5.00. Anything above that and my psp will either take 10 minutes to boot trying to read a umd or will freeze lanuching homebrew or a game. Very annoying.

Disconnecting umd drive didn't work. Also i'm getting weird screen flashes sometimes when changing the brightness. I did a nand restore from about a year ago when i wasn't having these problems and still doesn't fix it. This issue also seems to have an effect on despertar del cementerio v8 loading as well but then again only sometimes... v7 and below always load up.

Hope someones can solve this issue. If its umd i don't mind replacing it but getting a whole new motherboard is a different story.

This has got to be a hardware problem. Here is how I get mine to load on a blue madden edition psp with a broken umd drive and freezing when loading:

Load any application (Game, eboot, firmware update, homebrew) while it is loading, I applied opposite pressure on either side of the psp in an alternating twisting motion. It loads every time I do this. I think it is due to a loose connection on the motherboard or other components. I do this to load irshell and then run every app flawlessly through irshell. If I exit irshell and load an app normally it will freeze at the white psp sign.

This may only be a solution for my situation, but I figured that I would share. If you try this be gentle and careful.

the irshell really works fine, i'm using irshell 5.0 in a CFW 5.50 gen D2, if you automatically load the irshell when turning the psp on, it will work 100 % fine
