I recently re-applied the thermal paste on both the GPU and CPU. After doing so, the GPU became seriously INSANELY hotter than my CPU; the heatsink is icy cold compared to the other.

But well... I couldn't get most of the previous thermal paste under the GPU heatsink off because it looked like I would have to scrape them off with a chisel.

Does this affect my strange problem? Or was it the amount of thermal paste I used because I'm sure it was a fair amount (the same as the CPU)

You need to get all the old TP off obviously... =P

Get the old paste off first, then apply the new paste. When you do get all the old paste off the cpu and gpu should look like a mirror which is nice and shiny..
