Heya all,

This is my first post so go easy on me! Im currently in a position where im considering backing up my vast DVD collection due to my Daughter constantly using them not as carefully as i would hope :) However im having a few difficultys coming to terms with all of the different programs and information i need in order to get started so i have a few questions if thats ok!

1) Having tried a few test runs on DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter ive hit a bit of confusion. I understand the difference between DVD-5 and DVD-9 but what i wanted to know is if the format is DVD-9 does that make DVD decrypter useless as it doesnt shrink the final output to be able to fit onto a CD?

Ive done a pracice rip with DVD decrypter on a DVD-9 Film and the end result in the Video_TS file was unopenable in DVD shrink, is this meant to be this way?

2) On DVD Shrink if you turn all the extras and menu to "still pictures" what does this actually do to the end result?

3) I have many Stargate SG-1 Episode collection boxes and was wondering if i would have to put a seperate episode per dvd or if i could still put multiple ones per cd somehow?

4) Ive noticed when i rip with dvd decryter that the end result is files with .I00 as the extension, this doesnt seem corrent as i thought they should end up as .iso

Sorry for all the questions but i thought id rather ask before i make the investment so that i can at least use it at a competent level.

There is no DVD-9 format

A DVD-9 is determined by a DVD's size (> 4.36GB)

You'll need something besides DVD Decrypter to process a DVD-9. You'll have to have something to do the compression.

Do you wish to write a CD or a DVD - there is a vast difference -

You were using Decrypter in the "file" mode. Nothing wrong with that. If the files folder you wound up with was a VIDEO_TS (written all in caps) then DVD Shrink would read it. If your folder was Video_TS then you would have to rename it to the Caps name.

By super compressing menus and extras that would lesson the compression needed to make the main movie fit on your single DVD - resulting in a higher quality movie.

It's not necessary to put episodes on seperate discs, I put 12 episodes of "Sex in the City" on a single DVD. One way is to use DVD Shrink in the re-Author mode, Nero in the recode 2 mode OR DVD2One in the "Join" mode.

Yet again I ask, are you doing CD's or DVD's ? There are a world of differences between the 2. FYI, a CD will hold 700MB and a DVD holdes 4.36 GIG !!!

I will be doing DVDs :)

So if i encounter a dvd which cannot be ripped past the copy protection (right termology? =p) with DVD Shrink (how unlikely is this anyway?) then i can rip it with DVD Decrypter and make an file system then edit the size of this with DVD Shrink?

Correct !

Don't touch the setting you have in DVD Decrypter right now.

When you open DVD Shrink, click "Open Files" then locate the folder you made in the beginning to put your DVD Decrypter rip into :-)
