I Have swap magic 3.6,60G Ps3 and a 250G seagate external harddrive. I followed these instructions from another website and hopefully you guys can help me out with a little problem i ran into..
"What we need:
* Swap Magic Disc (v3.6)
* USB Memory Stick
* A Pc
* A Ps3
This method only works on ALL PS3's that are capable of playing PS2 games (20/60gb SKU's), and upto firmware 2.40. This does NOT work with NTSC systems.
[UPDATE]: We have reports that this method does work on 20/60gb NTSC SKU's that are running on firmware 2.10 (Anything above not tested as of now).
UPDATE : Tested and working on PAL 60gb SKU 2.41
UPDATE : Confirmed working on NTSC 60gb SKU Running FW 2.41 by ztkratos
Step 1
Download This .zip file :: Swap Magic Emulator Files
And extract its contents into the root of your USB Memory Stick.
Thats the easy bit Done
Step 2
Put your new USB Memory Stick with the files on into your ps3
Insert the Swap Magic Disc and click the ps2 disc icon when it appears
Swap Magic Will now load ... you will have to press your to use control pad again here.
Step 3
Now press R1 + Up on the Dpad simultaneously and a menu should appear.
Press any direction on the Dpad and then to enter Config.
Press again at default and then in the new list go down to 'MISC/' and press
Go down one to 'FileBrowser' and yes press again
Now the old config menu should appear go down to 'Ok' and press
Step 4
At this point you have to make sure 'FileBrowser' text is gray by using Dpad directions and pess when it is gray.
Here go down to 'MASS:/' the go down to 'USBD.IRX' and press R1 and then 'Copy' (press)
Press to go back
Now go to 'mc0:/' and press
Press R1 and then go down to 'New Dir' and press
Name the new directory as follows
* All American NTSC consoles - BADATA-SYSTEM
* All PAL consoles - BEDATA-SYSTEM
* All Japanese consoles - BIDATA-SYSTEM
Thanks Aries2k for this info
then press Ok
Enter the BEDATA-SYSTEM directory now and press R1 again then paste the USBD.IRX file there by chosing 'Paste' in the box
Press twice and then the and 'Quite Game'
Thats the hard bit over, its all plain sailing for now
Step 5
Now start Swap Magic Again
This time hold up on the dpad and then press L1
This will bring up the choice of emulators Pgen and Snes Station
Choose the one you want by pressing
There you have it its all done !! :D
All You have to do now is get some roms for the emulators :D :D
To answer most peoples question :: No you dont have to do the whole proccess each time you want to run the emulators, just connect the USB Memory Stick and go from Step 5

Please Search around the internet for USB SNES STATION, download it and place it in psxloader directory in USB Memory Stick"
With that said i was able to load my usb through swap magic..When i get up to the mass:/ step and press circle i see no 'USBD.IRX', it either freezes when i press mass:/ , or two periods come up and i see nothing there. To be clear i didnt download anything else besides the provided link in the instructions which was called "Swap Magic Emulator Files" and i also never downloaded USB SNES STATION into my usb yet if that bit of information helps.. Ill appreciate any type of advice!! THANKS!
That happened to me, too. The problem is most likely just that your USB drive isn't recognized by the program - I forget which program it is.
Only certain drives are recognized by that program (uLaunch?), and if it can't recognize it, it'll hang like that. (SanDisk Cruzer Micro USB drives seem to be your best bet, and they're fairly cheap nowadays - I just got a 4GB one at my local computer store for about $10.)
Alternatively, you could try reformatting your hard drive.
Thanks for the reply, So what you are saying is that my external harddrive cant run that specific file even though i can successfully get my hd to load up on swap magic to explore? This is all pretty confusing lol.. Is their any other alternatives besides this method or linux?
It's not so much that your external HDD can't run the program as it is that the program can't recognize your external HDD. It's strange how that works, but it is what it is.
I had the exact same issue with three different flash drives. My external hard drive didn't fare much better, either (the fact that it was partitioned into two differently-formatted partitions probably didn't help, either).
The entire process, I've found, is an extremely convoluted one, though. I wouldn't recommend using it unless you were ABSOLUTELY certain you wanted to play SNES games on your PS3. Playing it (and all your other old-school games) would be much, much easier on your PC. Or even if you're using Linux on your PS3. In fact, I think that'd be a much better way than the "PS3 to PS2 to Mod to SNES" method that's described here.
You'd have issues getting Linux to run, of course - I've heard there are issues with OtherOS not working right, you not being able to boot to the XMB anymore, etc. - but as long as you create a backup of your PS3 hard drive, you'll be set to tinker with it as you see fit.
