hi all,
I got a PS3(NTSC J).
could anyone help and tell if i can update my ps3 with an american update.
Please help

I believe you have to use the update from that region. I'm not sure though. Just use the network update function.

Ive got a japanese ps3 and all notifications and many other areas use only japanese lang and I cant read it.
Thats why im desperate to get an american OS as it uses NTSC and is english

PS: I know there is no region locking in ps3, but pal games wont work on a ntsc ps3 on SDTVs. Will ntsc-j games work on a ntsc(US)system [or vis versa]on SDTVs?

Yeah if BLUS (NTSC-America) games work then BLJM (ntsc-j) games should work on an NTSC SDTV.

With changing the OS to english you need to go to the settings tab (second from left)then scroll down to the 6th item on the list (system settings - Logo looks like a box with a spanner), then to the second on that list (system language)and scroll to english.

If your game notification ticker is in Japanese, you need to set up a PSN account in the region the language you want is from. So if you want American English set up an account with an address from America.
