PS3 60GB Hard Drive Question

I have a 60gb ps3 that just gave out from the "yellow light of death". I'm having Sony service it, but of course I wasn't able to back up my stuff. So the question is, can I put my 60gb hard drive into my friend's 80gb PS3 to try to retrieve and back up my data there? Thanx in advance.

marcusita is right its like the hdd's are tagged to the ps3 they are setup on. you can take one out of 1 ps3 and put it into another but for it to work on the second ps3 it needs to be reformatted in that ps3.
