If the game disc is the same region as your Wii system then you will not brick.

The only time you could get a semi-brick/brick with updates on a disc is if the game disc region is miss-matched with the Wii system region.

I am very curious about that too. How did it turn out? Why would it need a system update, even though internet update says there is no newer update available (4.1U)?

hey, I sort of faced the same thoughts, unfortunately Brick Blocker doesn't seem to work for it, patching wise (it says the ISO is not valid)...

Personally, I opened it in WiiJunkies (mac program) which still told me the iso size was wrong, but I ignored that and was still able to patch the file... After burning it, you still have to install IOS56-64-v5146.wad in order to be able to play it, but other then that you should be good :)

IOS files are used for diffrent things...

Wii System Menu Firmware.
To play games.
To run hardware.

Wii system updates from the Wii settings will install System Menu firmware (4.0/4.1 System Menu uses IOS60). So the system update will only update/install the IOS that is needed for the System menu. It will not update or Install all other IOS files.

If you happen to have a game that uses an IOS that has not been installed or updated then the game disc should give you an update prompt.

Using yukidon above information as an example...

Lets say you update to 4.0/4.1 firmware. The system will then install IOS60 and all needed files for 4.0/4.1 System Menu to load.

The game used above uses IOS56. So when you turn on the Wii it will boot into the Wii Menu using IOS60. When you place the game into the Wii System the game then will start and find that the game uses IOS56 to run. So it will then try to switch to IOS56 (instead of using IOS60 which is the Wii Menu firmware). If it can not find IOS56 then you should get an update prompt for it to install.

If you brick block or block game disc updates you will not be prompt to install the update so the game just sits there not loading because it can not load IOS56 for the game to play.

So to fix this use a non WiiBrickBlocked game and make sure the block update is disabled so the proper IOS can be installed. Or use WAD Manager and install the IOS needed manually.

Hi everyone, i did a search and found this thread.

Basically i have just burned a copy of Beatles Rock Band for my wii and when i put the disc in i get a wii system update screen in the disc channel. When i go to my backup launcher to launch the game i just end up getting a black screen.

Can anyone offer a fix or any advice for this?

Much appreciated and thanks to anyone who can help.

Go to the softmod guide I have listed in my sig and follow the DOP-IOS section of the guide.

Larry, I appreciate all you help make my wii awesome!

I used your previous guide to have backups run from the disc channel, and everything works flawlessly!!

Now I have Beatles RB, and it seems like I need to load IOS56. My question is, Do I have to go through all the IOSs and load each one? I already have some (it says in the right column which version).

Thanks so much!!
