There is a company, http://runlinuxonps3.com/ that is SELLING downloads of the free linux installer that can be downloaded free & legal anywhere. Not only do they charge for this free software (I think this is illigal to charge for), but they also lie on their site claiming that it works with all PS3 units (it does not). They have bought a bunch of advertising from google, so you should start seeing a bunch of the wide ad bars for them soon. They are using adclicks, so they have to pay google every time someone visits their site through one of these links.
So please, click on this link whenever you see it. Once the page comes up, just close it. If enough people do this, these con-artists will go out of business without the need for legal action.
Well they're not claiming to be selling the Linux OS itself but rather an easy installer. Regardless they have made a lot of false claims such as being able to play windows games easily and making it sound like if you install it improperly it will void your ps3's warranty. Not to mention making it sound like the PS3 under Linux is as good as top of the line computers which couldn't be further from the truth.
They also have a few fake blogs up on it posing as actual customers: http://linuxforps3.net/

Same here, the most respetable thing a programmer can do is to give away software as a gift to the world. To see some scammer take this free gift and profit from it is just sickening.
BTW...this is not an "easy installer"...it is the same installer you can download for free from the PSN without even opening a web browser. This is either open source that anyone can distribute for free, or it is the property of Sony. Either way, they are breaking the license and distribution agreement associated with it. If they are willing to do that, then I would not be suprised to find out that they are selling the credit card numbers that they get.
