I have been reading but can't find anyone that has asked this. I have new laptop that has a Sata port on the side of it. Can I just plug my XBOX 360 drive into it to flash it? If so, any additional info would be a great help. Thanks in advance.

Possibly.
Actually the port on your laptop is more than likely an E-SATA port. You would need to get an E-SATA to SATA cable. If your chipset is compatible, you should be able to read and flash.

oops...yes it's an eSATA port. So if I get a eSATA to SATA cable, that might work? Do you know how I can tell if my chipset is compatible? Any ideas on how I would power the xbox drive? (sorry total newb here)

You can power the drive by the 360. Do you happen to know what DVD drive your 360 has?

I guess so if the chipset picks it up, just be sure to keep the original firmware in a safe place in case something does go wrong.
I just inserted a new touchscreen multi function panel on my computer which has esata with it. Might try using the esata on that next time i need to flash just to see if it works lol
good luck :)

just use your desktop computer to flash and install in there a VIA card 6421 then connect the optical drive LiteON or the one you have and be smart use a connectivity kit to power the drive .. this is very important.
Quote: You can power the drive by the 360.
wrong, this will be flagged by the Xbox ..

Where is a rolleyes smiley when you need one?
Show me one case of somebody being banned from powering their DVD drive via their 360 during flashing. Oh, what's that? There isn't even one? And yet probably over 50% of flashing is done by people powering their drive via their 360...
OP: do yourself a favor and take anything dred says with a very large grain of salt.

The entire thread is 1 page. I read the entire thing. There is no proof, or even speculation, of anybody EVER being banned for this.
The OP in the thread himself says that Quote: i have no idea if bans will occur from that
.
So, um, yeah...

I assume you didn't read the whole article and since you seem to be so clever otherwise the mods didn't promote you to senior member I suggest you re-read the article and this time read this very warning ..
quote from the article 360Mods:
Quote: IF you power on the xbox whilst the DVD sata cable is not plugged from drive to xbox mainboard - it produces an error!
since an update earlier this year - that particular error is logged and counted!
better admit you're wrong, then to be sorry ..

Hmm... the guy in that thread definitely provided evidence... /sarcasm
Oh, and I'm pretty sure you get to Senior Member from post count, not the mods promoting you. Dumbass.

dred05, I noticed how that was written in stone over at 360mods.net. Please stop fear mongering and come back when you can present some evidence. Thanks.
Edit- Looking more into this, even though the poster of that thread is a Moderator (and I'm guessing he is BraveH43, an OP in #jungleflasher), he fails to provide any kind of evidence to what he claims. He just simply says, this is what I know and we all are suppose to take his word on it. So please, don't come in a thread acting like your word trumps what I said simply because you posted a link that contains no physical evidence.

the link I gave from 360Mods is for me convincing enough and therefore I have the right to use it as evidence ..
let me remind you what you have been posting earlier (particularly notice the use of the word must)..

Quote: If you purchase the CK3 probe, you must get the connectivity kit whether it be the PRO or Lite. Personally, if you plan on doing more Lite-ONs, the connectivity kit and probe will pay for themselves. Plus, it is always nice to power the drive with a connectivity kit, rather than the XBOX 360.

You may be convinced by a single post but I'm not. Just because you are convinced, doesn't mean it is evidence.

You really don't understand any of this do you? You obviously didn't read it very well. The 74850C Lite-ON REQUIRES the use of probe/spear. I said IF YOU PURCHASE THE CK3 PROBE, YOU MUST GET THE CONNECVTIVITY KIT. The CK3 Probe is used in conjunction with the CK3 Lite or PRO, since you didn't know.

If you properly read the link that I have provided you know it isn't a single post. read it and then make up your mind, even a 15 year old can understand this. why don't you ?

hey, don't need to repeat yourself, making a even bigger fool out of your self. let me highlight a sentence of your own posting:

What has this to do in combination with the purchase of the probe, huh ?

dred05, you are taking my posts from different situations and trying to make it seem like you have a valid point.
livewires simply said "Can I just plug my XBOX 360 drive into it to flash it?". So I said "You can power the drive by the 360."
The reason I have to repeat myself is because you can't comprehend what I'm saying. Nothing was mentioned about "the xbox will flag this" until you showed up. You could have simply quoted me and said "Here is a link to some interesting info, there is a possibility that this could hold true. Who knows though as no physical evidence was posted." Instead you had to say I'm wrong and your right just because you believe this guy.
Why don't you go ahead and dig up more of my posts where I talk about having the CK3 connectivity as a convenience.
Most people just want to flash their own console and be done with it. They don't want to purchase additional equipment for a 1 or 2 time use over the life span of their 360. The OP asked a question of whether or not you could use the 360 as a power supply to flash the 360 drive, so I said simply answered his question. Yes, he can use his 360 to flash the drive.
Originally posted by dred05: If you properly read the link that I have provided you know it isn't a single post. read it and then make up your mind, even a 15 year old can understand this. why don't you ?
He simply repeats himself in his other posts. I take it you didn't read his signature did you?
Mods: I'm sorry this thread has gone completely off topic. I'm done with this troll.

leerage, that guy has used the exact same tactics on me. He'll take sentences completely out of context, misquote you, ignore solid evidence yet accept the weakest of evidence if it backs up his own beliefs, and he'll quote something and imply that it backs up his point even if it does no such thing. Why he does this, I don't know (big ego perhaps?), but it's getting a little tiresome.
