Got my new drive today. I downloaded the Kreon FW for it
(SH-D162D_SB00_KREON_V100), which came with "sfdnwin". I made a temp folder on my c:\ drive and placed both files in it. I ran "sfdnwin". It picked up the Drive as...
"TSSTcorpDVD-ROM SH-D162DSB03"
I then selected the first button up top to open the .bin file to do the flash, unfortunately once I select the .bin it gives me the error message ...
"This Firmware is not compatible with the selected drive.
Contact your system manufacturer for information
on firmware updates available for this drive."
I've been searching for the last 3 hours and either I'm an idiot (very possible), or I simply am missing the answer to how to fix this(as I'm sure it's got to be out there somewhere)! Please take pity on me here and throw me some good advice on what I may be doing wrong! Thanks for any help y'all may be able to give me to help solve this problem I find myself having.

From the run command, I believe you need its location like C:\Documents and settings\User\Desktop\sfdwin.exe -nocheck

If I remember right you have to run the "-nocheck" in order for it to flash the firmware.

If that doesn't work, boot DosFlash on a USB drive and flash the firmware that way.

Good Stuff Mate!! The Dos prompt -nocheck thing, still failed. The DOSFlash Method said it was a sucess! Now do you have any recommendation as to the best rip program surrently out? I have Xbox_Backup_Creator_v2.6.0.260, but it doesn't seem to want to let me rip anything. I'll check for a tutorial, but I figured I'd also ask your preference of program. Thanks again!!

OK, as I said, the DOSFlash method said it was successful, however, when using Xbox Backup Creator 2.6, and 2.8, the read/write functions still appear as disabled. So I thought I'd try it in Schtrom360 extract v3.4. I can select my drive and pick a save location, but when I press "Extract" it gives me the error code "Can't get feature list from drive! It is a Kreon Compatible Drive, but don't seem to be flashed with the right firmware! Drive is used as a normal DVD-ROM!" Any suggestions?

open up XBC again, and at the top it should have a drop down box to select whichever drives you have. select the kreon drive, and it should say what FW it has on it.

Thanks for your continued help!!!
The drop down menu lists the drive as...
"TSSTcorpDVD-ROM SH-D162DSB00"
...which from what I've read, seems that it is correct?

I did some searching on this and found only one other thread about it in another forum. The gent trying to help that guy said that it may be conflicting with the port I/O drivers. I uninstalled and deleted them to be safe. That didn't fix it. It was also advised that to uninstall the via card may help. I fought with that for a bit. Uninstalled it, deletedthe drivers, turned off the machine, and removed it, turned pc back on, let it reboot. Then I shut it back down, reinstalled the card, restarted pc and installed the via 502vers of the drivers, restarted again. And I still haven't fixed anything! I don't generally condone drinking while working on your PC, but this puppy is driving me to reach out to a bottle of whiskey! I'm usually much better at this than I feel right now. Do you think a fresh format may help (yeah that's how peeved I am!)?

it doesnt have the kreon FW on the drive. your right in saying the drive is compatible, now you just have to flash it. if it had kreon on it, it would say that instead of the sb00 part. it would be like kreon v.8 or 1.0. (1.0 is the newest so use it.)

Dunno what I am doing wrong then, I used DOSFlash32 To flash it, and it said it was flashed successfully. I have no idea what is going wrong with the flash! I don't get any error messages. I used the "SH-D162D_SB00_KREON_V100.bin" file to flash it, is that the correct firmware?

edit---

please open back up XBC and select your drive. in the white text box area it will say found device/drive (cant remember which) and will list the drive, then under it there should be a line stating 'additional information' and next to that it should say kreon v1.0. at least thats what mine says.

Alright, here we go.
I ran XBC again, there is no "additional information" line for the drive. I watched the video, with a few exceptions, I'm doing just what it says to.
1. open sfdnwin (here's the diff. I have to do this through the command prompt. I run c:\temp\sfdnwin -nocheck because if I just run It it gives me the error message at the top of the thread.)
2. Open the firmware .bin. (This works fine using the method I mentioned above in step 1)
3. Download firmware do the Drive. An error message pops up here. "Flash Cmd Fail!!"...then the status changes to "Waiting..." and it won't let me do anything else.

On a side note...the Flash I tried to do did change one thing XBC was reading the drive as
"TSSTcorpDVD-ROM SH-D162DSB03" when I first started trying to rip a disc. It now is registering as "TSSTcorpDVD-ROM SH-D162DSB00". Only the last digit changed, but it is a change none-the-less.

No worries! Thanks for the info. I'll take any I can get at this point. I read a few more threads now that I'm getting the "Flash Cmd Fail" message. I'm going for extremes today. First step is stripping down my entire pc leaving only my primary hard drive and the drive I'm flashing attached. Second and hopefully not necessary, I'll try a fresh format to see if it may have taken the flash, and it's justa software related conflict. Anyone that can help feel free to chime on in. If I stop responding it means my spaee monitor crapped out on me and I'm only able to check replies through my phone.

If it went from SB03 to SB00 I am pretty sure you have got Kreon flashed to the drive. Do as wabashman said, open up 2.8 and from the drop down list at the top, select your drive that has SB00. Then look at the running log down at the bottom and it should give you additional info about the drive.

If you can't even see the drive from the drop down list, what SATA chipset do you have this drive connected to?

I have opened 2.8, Selected the drive(listed as ...SB00)and it detects the drive in the running log, but has no additional info line listed beneath it(it is the only drive that doesn't). I have it connected through a via VT6421 chipset card. It is the same card that I recently used to flash my Sammy MS28(which went flawlessly btw). Not sure if it makes a difference, but the D162D is an ide drive, not sata (which is how it is listed in the "ok drives to flash with kreon" List).

Did you remove the VIA driver before flashing your Samsung? If so, you will probably need to restore the driver.

Have you unlocked the drive? Start XBC, then select Drive Tools and press Unlock Drive.

Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

I reinstalled the most recent drivers for it as soon as I was done the sammy flash. After reading a diff thread about this I rolled back those drivers to the v520a version of the via drivers and tried again. Same result with all setups.

OK, I went in clicked on drive tools, and in that tab the "Stealth Check", the "Unlock Drive", and the "verify disc" buttons are all grayed out (unavailable to click on, I'm not sure if they're actually gray as I am color blind.)

Sort of, It is an ide drive plugged into the ide port on the vt6421 card. The certain card I have has 1 ext. sata port, 2 int. sata ports, and 1 int. ide port. The drive is obviously plugged into the ide port, since it is an ide drive. I only left it plugged into the card because I thought you need a via chipset for the flash to work and my mb in my pc does not have a via chipset.

You only need a via card to flash the 360, just plug the Kreon drive in directly into your motherboard.
