I have been without a computer for a good month and a half cause my psu shot my whole system, but before that happened a buddy gave me a patch that you patch new games with.... Anyone else heard of this?

That's just so that Wave 3 games can work on 360s that are modded with iXtreme 1.5 and lower. Playing these patched games in Live will get you banned.

Be sure to update your iXtreme to 1.6 in order to play all of the latest games and to ensure that you are safe on Live if you use it. If you don't care about Live then yes you can just patch the games but it's really better to upgrade to 1.6.
