Hey everyone. So, I'm getting the 3 ring RRoD at the moment.. Though, sometimes it starts up, and sometimes doesn't. I know this means my 360 is dying/dead, but I am curious about a few things. I've noticed that everytime I start the 360 up and get the RRoD, my dvd drive "clicks". I can't remember if this happens when I don't get the RRoD, but I have never noticed it in the 3 years I have had this console.

So I'm wondering - and hoping - That the 3 ring RRoD is being caused by an error with the drive, and my 360 might not just be dying. I have the MS25 Samsung drive which is flashed if it's any help, and I didn't get any RRoD errors before flashing (about a month ago). So, does the MS25 drive always "click", or do you think the RRoD is just my Xbox dying?

I realise I'm clutching at straws here, so any "good" news would be... good, haha!

Thanks everyone.

the GPU is overheating, which is conveniently placed under the dvd drive!!!!

tended to work better standing up as laying down made it get hot as heat cant escape from floor, if i lay it down i put some cd cases under unit sound crazy but it saved xbox until i fixed it with the kit.

i took mine apart for a week or two its a pain but i had drivehanging out of left side of unit and leaving gpu heatsink exposed, it will eventually go permanent unless you fix it either better cooling fans google them ive seen them for sale or replace the heatsink with the newer xbox one with the floating extra copper part on.

ive had 2 rrod on me 1 is still going after a ebay kit repair with screws and new thermal paste etc... (llama xbox site is good for info) google that.

Thanks boltonguy, great info.

I have taken it apart the 2 times it has RRoD'd, reassembled it and it has worked, usually immediately after I have reassembled it, and even a bit longer.

The screw fix should work with my 360 for this problem, right?

If you do it properly it will last for a long time yeah, the reason it boots sometimes is because the broken solder is making connection then when it gets hot expanding and warping and losing connection again so it freezes and has rrod again.

Consoles:

XBOX360 Falcon console with Lite-On 74850C

PS3 80gb phat model with 120gb hdd

PS3 60gb model

PS3 modded on 3.55

Thanks alot to you too steo2k8

I was thinking something alone those lines was happening, but it makes me curious. Even if I do apply the screw fix, I mean, say the solder has warped again (out of place), applying the fix will make it so that the solder won't be making a connection anyway, wouldn't it?

Or does the actual process applying the fix get everything in proper position first?

Anyone else got an opinion?

Update; Just checked secondary codes, and I've got a 0020. Could be solved by resoldering all joints?

Hey Draupnir0

when you have done the fix switch it on and if the rrod has gone then voila.. put it together again and play on. if you still get the rings then you have to force it to overheat to melt the solder... make the connection.... then you allow to cool before you try it again. i've fixed a fair few and had some work from the first time you switch on and some have to be heated then re-heated lol.

They have all worked in the end tho.... happy modding :)
