well, so after my normal searching on ebay for RROD consoles and the like, i officially made out like a bandit tonight. picked up two consoles, both HDMI with good seals, a wireless controller, a 175 watt PSU, component cables, 5 spare battery covers for the controllers (needed two, found five). all for a grand total of 125 bucks; 150 after shipping is figured in. not bad i say.

Hi there can i ask if there is anyway to tell if a Xbox 360 is covered by the 3 year warranty without asking the ebay seller??

Sorry i completely miss worded the question, What i meant was could i tell if it is in the 3 year timeframe without arising the sellers suspicion as some people don't even know about the 3 year warranty covering the rrod
Basically i would like to try and take advantage of this!

are you sure that people don't know about it? it seems like every person i've encountered that got the rrod knew about it cause they searched the net about why their box wouldn't work anymore.
and if you did find a person who got rrod and instantly put it on ebay without checking into why their $200+ purchase wasn't working anymore... i don't think you have to worry about asking them what the manufacture date on the back is.

and what do you look for wabashman??
Any rrod machine that has not been opened?
Do you consider Disk read error machines?
What about ones with sound problems?
What kind of problems would you avoid?
Basically i would like to try and make profit by buying and selling xbox 360's. I am comfortable with many of the repair methods and my ability to carry them out but no so confident on the buying part.
I dont want to end up with a room full of dead x boxes but i will take a few risks if necessary. I just want to minimize that risk and am hoping you could elaborate a little as you are obviously a man of experience

People don't usually give out detailed business plans within 30 minutes of you originally asking. We don't mind helping you out at all just be patient.
On to your answer - Best broken systems to look for (in order of easiest repair)
1. 3ROD - Covered by 3 yr. (any and all error codes)
2. Disk read errors (easy replacement of drive)
3. 2ROD Error - Overheating error, easy to turn into 3ROD.
4. E73 Error - Not sure if covered by warrenty, E74 is... (H/anna chip error - Reflow board to fix)
If I were you, I'd not buy any with sound problems since I'm not sure how easy that is to fix.

wabashman, I more quick question in regards to disk read purchases if i may.....
Am i right in thinking that if purchasing a box with disk read errors i have to have the original dvd key for that drive ?
Or is there a way round this ?

ya you have to have to the original key. but i send ALL consoles i get off of ebay into MS, regardless of RROD or no RROD. this way i know they are fixed, and are fixed correctly.

and ms will just continue to replace/fix all different consoles repeatedly for the same person free of charge(if warranty is good, even if the cd key was missing?

ACTUALLY....
I bought an E73 console off ebay, popped on my Warranty Sticker from another console, sent it in, and they didn't fix it :(.
sum1 already had stevedawg and stevedawg85 is longer than 10 chars :(

Cause E73 is only covered by the standard warrenty. Should've told them E74.

So if I buy a 360 off ebay that has rrod and is within warranty and I send it in for repair and then it breaks again in four months time, will Microsoft fix it again? Won't repaired consoles not break soon again anyway?
