Here is my problem, I have a 360 that just had its dvd drive die. Im not sure how it happened but plugging it up to a PC and getting its Key is impossible. Is there a way to hook up a new dvd drive up to the old mobo and have it play games or am sol. If there is no way to fix this problem is my only option to get a replacement mobo and a dvd drive that went with it?

Thanks in advance for the info.

If you did not obtain the DVDkey before frying the drive, the XBOX 360 is pretty much useless. The best you could do is replace the DVD drive and have a DVD player. No DVDkey, No games.

Edit - What type of DVD drive did you have? It is possible that if you didn't fry the flash chip, it could be desoldered and read externally.

As I thought, as for the desoldering, that sounds a little out of my expertise unless you think it isn't all that difficult and you could give me/ or point me in the direction of a guide of how to do it.

Thanks Again

You would have to send it to some body with an external programmer. I believe this is possible for all drives except the Lite-ON.

How about putting that board on a new (identical) drive.

By identical drive do you mean like switching a Hitachi with a Hitachi or something else? Cause I thought the key was unique to each drive.
