I posted this is someone else's thread but since it wasn't directly related to my issue and since their issue was solved I am reposting as a new thread. I hope this doesn't upset anyone but I am really hoping someone can help me with this.

Here is my setup/problem -

I am using the latest Jungleflasher with the Maximus USBXtractor. I did install PORTIO32 correctly (I believe) and am using a PC with a NvVideo Sata board.

I got to the erasing the drive part of the tutorial and it wouldn't return a valid ID after several attempts, I am powering my drive from my xbox and it's pretty much impossible to power it on/off in 1 seconds as the guide says and while I have got it in vendor mode a few times I get 0x80 most of the time and even when I got it in vendor mode I didn't get the Device ID at all, so it refused to write.

Eventually the PC froze on my after several attempts and I had to reboot. At this point I accidentally closed the DVD drive but thankfully I read here this should be OK (I used the info here to reopen it half way).

Also every time I turn on the DVD drive or connect it to the PC the PC freezes for about 3 minutes, making the process very painful. To even get into Windows I have to wait until the OS is fully booted and then connect the drive, at which point the PC will freeze for 3 minutes before I can continue.

Then I got to a point where it would no longer even give me enough time to power cycle the drive, it would immediately give me the following info -

Manufacturer ID: 0xFF
Device ID: 0xFF
Flash Name: Unkown Type
Flash Size: N/A

Flash Chip properties

Vendor ID: 0xFF
Device ID: 0xFF

Name: unknown type
Size: N/A
Type: Serial flash with status 0x72

I restarted the PC again and tried again but could not get a valid ID.

I have successfully flashed an Hitachi drive with this setup (minus the Maximus of course) twice in the past.

I had to give up late last night and I am now in a position of having a erased LiteOn drive that I can't flash! blink.gif

Thankfully everything I have read tells me as long as my key dump is fine, (which I think it is as I did it 4 times to make sure) I should be able to get it flashed.

I do have two other computers with Sata inputs that I could try but now the drive is erased it's hard to be sure which port it's on.

Thanks for any help!!!

If you are using the VIA SATA card, remove the VIA driver:

1. Disable VIA card in Device Manager.
2. Go to C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers and remove "viamraid.sys" or "vsmraid.sys".
3. Re-enable VIA card in Device Manager.
4. Re-Boot PC.

I do not believe I am using a VIA Sata card, I tried removing the drivers but they don't show up in device manager.

Thank you for your help, anything else I can try?

Well if you are using nForce and getting freezing, you are probably going to have to boot DosFlash v1.8 on an USB drive.

OK so I'm going to try my other PC with Sata and see if I get freezing on that, if that doesn't work I'll try DosFlash 1.8.

Any chance you can point me to a guide for DosFlash with LiteOn and only see BenQ/Samsung in your sig.

And any tips on doing this with a drive that has already erased the firmware? Will DosFlash still be able to recognise it?

Thank you so much for all your help!

In my signature is the programs and files necessary to make the bootable USB drive. Just format as FAT32 and direct the program to the "Boot Files" folder. Then put your custom firmware bin (IX 1.6 + your DVDkey) on to the USB along with DosFlash 1.8.

Boot to it type:

dosflash.exe

It should list your Lite-ON by it's flash chip, either MXIC or Winbond/NEX. Select the corresponding number. Type W for write and then type the name of your custom firmware bin.

AWESOME! This worked great, THANKS!

Found the creation of a bootable USB a little confusing, didn't realise I had to use the included utility and when I did use that I didn't notice the option to make it bootable. But after a few attempts I realised by error and placed the correct files onto the USB and it worked like a charm, no issue's at all.

Once I had the USB ready (less than 5 mins without my mistakes) it took less than 3 minutes to flash my drive :)

Been getting dirty disk errors on my backups though when I try and install them to the hard drive. Hoping I have not damaged the drive. Installing one from the original disk now and all seems to be going fine (at 70%) so fingers crossed.

Why would previously perfect backups give me dirty disk errors now?

Thanks for your help dude! LIFE SAVER :-D

Not a problem. Glad I could help. What type of Dual Layers are you using?

Verbatim, the ones everyone recommends! And I run everything through ABGX and burn at 2.4x.

Now sometimes it won't even load the game from disk. I managed to get one installed to drive but the others give me the error before they finish. Originals still seem fine, so I'm hoping my drive is not damaged.

All these games worked fine on my old 360 with Flashed Hitachi drive?!?

I was using firmware 1.5 then, would that make a difference?

Thanks
