Ok... I just flashed my Xbox a few weeks ago with a hitachi drive and now I got the RROD ... it did the freeze, beep and next time I turned it on the next day it was the RROD error code 0102.
Question is as follows. It is 2 years old and I still have 1 year on the warranty left.
Am I able to unflash the drive and then utilize the warranty and return it to Microsoft for repair / replacement?
My warranty / serial sticker is still intact of course.
Anybody succesful in doing so? I don't want to send it in and have it confiscated then I would rather just pay the 50 dollars for a RROD clamp fix but realistically would prefer to repair it via warranty.
Thanks... purchased from FutureShop if that makes a difference but their PSP does not cover the RROD as Msoft wants to handle that stuff... thanks
Edit - I should mention I didn't flash it myself so it will cost 15 dollars to revert it to the original and then probably another 15 dollars to flash it again once I get the repaired one back so 30 dollars.. 20 dollars less then a RROD repair. So theres a savings of 20 dollars using the warranty
Also I'm very computer literate so I could probably reflash it myself once I learn how.. just downloaded the guide tonight

Actually there's no need to flash stock firmware back. Microsoft seems to not even check the firmware at all during RROD Repair. I have personally sent in a console that was flashed, and was returned a unit, not flashed of course, but fixed. I have a friend who did the same and they sent him a new unit as well. So in two instances it appears that do not even check what firmware the dvd drive has.

I've read in other places that they don't check ... but then I've read of people getting the xbox sent back unrepaired..
I'll just flash back to original and send it in... should be good to go.
Thanks.. this was the only place I would trust the answer from

i know several people on here who have sent them in with modded fw on them and they got fixed. you are most likely going to get a new drive back anyway.

Why not do it as a precaution? Would take you 15 minutes total to disassemble, flash, and reassemble before you put it in a coffin anyways. Personally, I wouldn't risk the chance of Microsoft finding out it had modified firmware on it, but that risk is purely up to you.
Except if you had a Lite-ON, then you have no choice but to send it in modified. :)

You will more than likely get the 83850C Lite-ON which can be done via SATA (no probe/spear involved). I have sent mine in and had it returned in 7 business days. Although I believe there is an option online to expedite the delivery. UPS will overnight the box to the repair center and once repair is complete, they will overnight it back to you.
