Ok so im trying to flash my first 360. Ive done a bunch of research but wanna make sure I got everything right and see what im missing.
So I have a lite-on DG-16D2S, a usb to ide/sata (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270332813192&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT), a blaster 360 ne and some other assorted parts. I have to use the usb sata because i only have a laptop.
So now that I know that its a lite-on i guess that means i have to dump the key. First question is could I do it with one of those diy probes (http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/767988)? anybody tried it or know if it works with this model drive? also will it work with the usb sata (heard there could be problems with those)? and if not is there any alternative sata i could use on laptop?
Then i take it jungle flasher and ixtreme are next... any specific versions or instructions i should use?
Not trying to be lazy just trying to make sure i do everything right and everything works for my specific situation and drive. I DID search... alot haha.
Thanks
i'm not sure about your hardware set up with the laptop as i've never used one to update an xbox's fw but i would find the DVD drives rom version as that will decide whether you need a probe or not as i believe the 83850C can be flashed using JF without it.
Also just download the latest JF 1.66, the latest drivers for your laptop and the latest instruction manual, i know JF have just released a new updated version with fluffy dice.
or use the guides lovingly put together by Leerage, between the two you should have all your Q's answered.
thanks toaster, just got back from radio shack with the stuff for the home built probe so I guess im gonna try that will post back with results once I try the dump. but how do i find the drives version? isnt it just the model number?
the fw version can be found on top of the DVD drive printed on the sticker. It will either be 74850c or 83850c, the latter being the latest drive and not needing the probe to dump the key et al.
Ok so I looked and I have the 74850c so I went ahead and built the probe. Decided to hook up the blaster ne first and got all that hooked up. Plugged in the ODD exchange cable that comes with it to the drive and the sata from the drive to the usb adapter I mentioned above. When I went to turn on the 360 I pressed the button and noticed a green flash then nothing. Then looked at the PSU and saw a damn red light on it. So basically now when I first plug in the brick itll be yellow then turn red when I press the power button on the 360. When I disconnect it it takes a few seconds for the light to go out then it can be reconnected to return to yellow. The fans dont even try to start up or anything, really frustrating... Anybody heard of this happening? No idea why it would happen but the only thing I can think of is the usb caused a power surge and screwed up the drive...
take a look through this..... this has some things to test out before you think its all over for the power brick. Also does it still play up when you take everything off the xbox that shouldn't be there and try it again? It may of been that something you connected wanted too much juice and the power brick thought it was a surge and stopped the supply to safeguard the 360?
Actually thats the first thing I looked at... I have the 360 stripped down to the bone, definitely took off all blaster parts and went back to all original cables. I also left the brick unplugged all night just in case and noting. Already tried all outlets and checked connections too. Only thing I havnt tried is another psu but thats cuz I dont have one... Cant believe this is happening over nothing...
Been searching around and realized theres a difference when the lights red right away when you plug it in, turns red when plugged into 360, and when its yellow until the power button is pressed. Cant find any concrete solutions or even explanations as to why the difference in times the red light comes on and what is wrong with the system.
From what ive read I doubt another brick will change anything, but will try as soon as possible. Im sure it HAS to mean someting that it doesnt turn red til I press the power button. Im scared I bricked the drive but I really need to know, im dying with out my 360 lol.
