Hi there i'm greg and i've got a flashed xbox 360 ixtreme 1.6 and i have got a tsst corp dvd-rom SH-D163B kreon flashed in my pc which i have happly been using to backup my games for at least a year now, unfortunatly the ram.cfm" class="forum_link" target="_blank">dvd-ram samsung DVD+R DL burner drive i have had for a while has broke, so i went and brought a HP DVD1270 DVD+R DL burner to replace it. i went to burn a game (Halo ODST Campain disk) as usual with it (ran the .iso through abgx360 first, came out perfect, all green) and the disk came out with random rings on the data side of the dvd (which never happened with my old one and the dvd drive does this to evry disk i burn even non xbox games and on single layer disks). i thought hmmmm..... i better check the halo odst game disk in good old abgx360. so i put the disk in my tsst corp SH-D163B dvd-rom drive and loaded it up. and it gave this

Error reading Layer Boundary Information (INVALID FIELD IN CDB)

As you can see it says it has passed stealth check and the only problem is the layer break (boundary) which it can't read.
However i put in my xbox anyway and it played fine! so now i was a bit confused....... i decided to put it my non flashed HP drive DVD 1270 DVD+R DL (the one it was burnt with) and ran it through abgx360 with that drive, and it gave this.

See, all fine, so now i don't know which drive to trust and i am worried as to if my dvd burner isn't working properly, or doesn't support layerbreaking, and that, it may lead to me getting banned off xbox Live, which i really don't want.
Any help/ clarification would be appreciated and i will respond to all coments!

By the way, the rings on the disk are not due to the quality of the disk, it is somthing to do with the burner (maybe it not supporting layerbreak??). and they are similar to the rings that are left on a disk when you move the xbox while the disk is spinning inside, except that they are just from where the dvd burner hasn't burnt it properly.
if you want a pic of the disk you'll have to tell me how to get it on here, as the only way i can see is to put a URL link to it and i don't have a web page.

I would be weary of the new burner.

Any burner putting physical rings on the disc does not sound like it is operating correctly.

That's a good point, but I don't think it is a broken burner, as I have successfuly burn a movie and a music cd with it, I was just wondering if because of the the funny layerbreak in my game if I could get banned? And I make them for a few of my friends so they would absolutely rape me if I got them banned!

well then a better question, is why would you keep a burner that physically damages your disks?

I'm not. Ther burner isn't damaging the disc at all, it just leaves a random gap (1mm) which leaves a visable ring (the ring is just where it has jumped and not burntit isn't actually damaging it) when burning and carries on, it doesnt mean the burn doesn't work, I was just wondering if Microsoft could detect the bad layer break and ban me.
P.S. Thanks for your help a lot of the time my posts are just ignored, it's appreciated ;)

No problem for the help.

Honestly, what I would do is try testing out another drive (for burning). If you can, borrow one from a friend and try it out on your setup.

I personally would not be comfortable playing games that are throwing flags when checked by abgx.

If another drive works, and doesn't cause the error to be shown, I'd stick with that and swap out burners.

Yes I do have really old DVD drive that will burn games without the data ring, but it can only do them at 2.4x which is quite slow. I thought i would try burning at that speed witch my new one, maybe it can't keep up with 8x speed (however it does say it can do 24x!). Again does anyone know if the ring on the disc will get me banned?

I don't think anyone can tell you for sure. This is the first time I have heard of anything like this, probably the same for others.

I personally would not put that in my 360. But you can do what you want.

Hhhm..... I think I will carry on with my hp DVD drive, I know it's stupid, but I can't be bothered changing, when no one is sure that there is somthing wrong and if it gets me banned, oh well it's not the end of the world :). Thanks for your time and imput though!

not a problem.

Keep us updated.hopefully nothing will, but if anything ever happens, be sure to let us know. I haven't seen/read anything similar to this, so it would be good for others to be able to reference in case something does.

Good luck.
