First off let me start by saying I have spent the last few days researching and trying to find the answer to this question both on this forum and elsewheres. Mostly all I can find is people saying this gets asked everyday ahhhh. I have search the site and havent been able to find anything to satisfy me. Some of the info is old and I am looking for up to date options. If theres anymore info you need about what I am running let me know.

Anyways......

I have a 360 with a hitachi drive thats flashed with ixtreme 1.51. I want to be able to backup my games. I have a dual layer burner in my laptop that should be able to burn the iso once I can get it.

I am wondering if it is better to get an external DVD-Rom with Kreon to rip the legit copies or to buy Xecuter Blaster 360 NE with XBOX USB to rip from the 360. If external drive is the answer, which drive is good to do this with, a lot of the suggestions in the other posts are over a year old and include hard to find drives so maybe there is something more current.

The reason I am looking at actually ripping the games is because I have tried downloading the isos via torrents and have found out like everyone else has already said that they are saturated with leechers. I have seen posts on here that newsgroups aren't what they used to be. If anyone can help me with this.

I'm pretty sure you can't rip games with a Hitachi (until a 0800 firmware becomes available for it) so the Blaster would be worthless. Your best bet is to get a Kreon in a USB caddy.

Here is the list of drives that can be flashed with Kreon firmware:

Samsung SH-D163A (SATA)
HP TS-H353A (SATA)
Samsung SH-D163B (SATA)
HP TS-H353B (SATA)
Samsung SH-D162C (IDE)
HP TS-H352C (IDE)
Samsung SH-D162D (IDE)
HP TS-H352D (IDE)

Once you get a Kreon drive, you will just need the caddy so you can hook it up to your laptop via USB. You can use programs like XBOX Backup Creator v2.9 or Schtrom 4.0 to rip games. For burning programs you can also use XBC v2.9 or ImgBurn.

Now that I know that, I may as well ask a amateur question. How do I know which one I need sata or IDE.
