I bought the japanese ceramic white controller today but it didn't come with a usb cable. I'm charging it now with my mp3's usb to mini cable but it doesn't have that ball that the sony usb controller cable has. So I was just wondering what is that ball that's on my sony usb cable? Does my black controller get a better/quicker charge from the sony usb cable as opposed to the balless usb cable I'm using for my white controller? I don't think so... but then again I'm thinking that that ball has to have some sort of a purpose, right?

hmm, could be a transformer, no idea, but that's my guess if any. So yeah if its a transformer it could charge the controller faster.

This is because, im also guessing if its a transformer its gonna be a step up transformer so that there is less power loss as teh electricity travels through the wire.

It's a ferrite core, which is used to suppress high frequency noise. Your controller's rate of charge is going to be the same whether or not it's installed.
