to make this as simple as possible I will try and scale everything down.

I first bought a 360 on ebay sometime in spring of 07. A guy at work said he could flash my 360 and I let him. He gave me an e-mail with 4 .bin files. The drive worked flawless, but eventually the console itself suffered the RROD. I kept the dvd drive Hitachi 2006 manufacturing date. So I then bought an xbox 360 arcade last november and sent both the dvd drives (Hitachi and Lite-On) to someone who is no longer on the board. He then gave me an e-mail with a dvd drive key and some other .bin files. I put the Hitachi drive in and was able to play backup's and originals (hitachi was spoofed to mimic the lite-on drive?)(never seen if the lite-on worked or really cared). Recently I sent the drive to someone who stated they could flash the lite-on drive with the latest 1.6 firmware. Got it back and the only thing it will read is dvd's (no backups or original games).

I don't believe that I told the last guy that it had been flashed not once but twice. To make a long story short, is it possible to get my Lite-On drive working with the 1.6 firmware? The hitachi drive will read backups and originals (except for wave 3 games).

The person whom attempted to flash my drive had this to say

Well I couldn't read your key off your drive. I have done many and never had a problem, the person who had previously got the key off your drive had soldered on there so maybe they messed something up on it. I tried reading the key off the drive like you would since the guy had soldered used the old way and that didnt work, but I also tried the new easy way you get this thing called a probe. You just poke it in a hole and it will read the key. So I couldnt get the key either way. The program also stated that the files you sent me it said, something like serial does not match drive or something so the person who did your drive before could of swapped on you.

Does anyone out there think they could solve this problem? I don't have a connectivity kit or anything, but have been able to use my onboard SATA while the tray was half opened, but all I get (on either drive is Serial Data error).

I might be reading this wrong, but do you/did you have the hitachi spoofed to work in the console that the liteon was originally in (which was then replaced by the hitachi to read backups)?

Second, so the liteon has been flashed before? Do you have any of the .bin files from that? Second, if it has already been flashed with ixtreme, regardless of the version, you no longer need the spear/probe. You can do it straight over sata. It is only the original reading and flashing of the drive that you need a key reader.

The problem is your lite on drive no longer has a valid DVD Key on the firmware. What you need to send the lite on back to your flashing dude along with the dummy.bin file the second guy sent you and ask him to use the DVD key contained within that firmware.

Hope this make sense.

Guesswho - To my knowledge, the Lite-On was never flashed! The guy that just had the lite-on
tried to flash said drive and gave me the error I posted above. The Hitachi drive is now residing
in the drive the lite-on originally came in and plays originals and backups fine

Miketrev - I sent the dvd key and bin files that the guy who last spoofed my drive (Nov 2008) gave me. This guy tried to use them and (I assume) was unable to

Since I don't have a connectivity kit and tried to do everything with just my pc and SATA port, I get the serial data error.

Short of buying a connectivity kit and just trying to use my limited knowledge and onboard SATA (while xbox is powered), is there anything I can do?

Well, if your hitachi was spoofed to work in the same console was as the liteon, then you should have the liteon key stored in your hitachi drive. (others join in, wouldn't he).

Since you had to spoof the hitachi in that console, it would have to keep the same key that the liteon had in order to work in that console.

So you could dump the firmware from the hitachi, and get the key that is stored on that. That would be the same has your liteons dvd key.

Then create new hacked firmware for the liteon, and flash it to the liteon.

Make sense?

Thanks to both of you for the prompt and informative responses.

Would I need a connectivity kit, probe, or anything else to pull this information from my Hitachi drive?

Just last night I had my xbox 360 drive powered on, but hooked to my onboard SATA drive on my pc. Jungleflasher seemed to see the drive, but when I pushed get dvd key, dummy button, it immediately gave Serial Data Bad. Is there something I am doing wrong? Before starting junleflasher, I open the disk drive, then close it (as soon as it starts to close, I unhook the power, then hook it back in with the tray half open). Is there something I am overlooking?

I haven't had to do hitachi's in a little while, so my suggestion would be to read jungleflasher's NEW tutorial for flashing drives.

Read specifically the one for flashing an already flashed hitachi, and then the one specific to your hitachi version.

Once you do that, read how to dump the firmware off of it. Save it, and then look at it with jungleflasher to get your dvd key.

Once you've done that, you can work on creating a hacked firmware for the liteon with the dvdkey you just got.

Save the hacked firmware, and then flash it to the liteon. Look at the guide for the specific steps, but that should be a good overall general outline.

I am just curious to know what exactly the error message was that the guy (that tried flashing the drive last) received when loading the Lite-On dummy.bin into Jungle Flasher.

This could be just a warning message saying your drive serial is incomplete.

I don't see why this warning would prompt the guy to think your drive was swapped. What does swapping your drive have to do with the dummy.bin file?

Yeah the Lite-On drive could have very well been swapped for a bad drive but this wouldn't effect the Lite-On dummy.bin file. Which evdently at least had the Drive Key in it if you have a spoofed hatachi working.

In response to larrylje, here is the e-mail I received from the guy (wasn't from this board either, in case you are wondering)

Well I couldn't read your key off your drive. Try to load the Lite-On dummy.bin file into Jungle Flasher as source and tell us what the error message syas (if it gives a message).

Did the last guy even attempt to flash the drive since he couldn't get a dummy.bin or load the 1 you sent him?

Don't know the exact answer to that question larry. I am new at trying to read dvd key's and such. I hooked the lite-on drive (being powered by the 360, to my desktop pc, which has onboard SATA) and tried messing with it. When I would attempt to do anything it would say bad serial data, but at points there would come up some info on Jungleflasher saying fimware version 1.6 and the dvd key. When I try to start jungleflasher (forgive me, for I am at work), before I can start it I believe it says can't find a device which leaves me with try again, cancel, or continue. When I hit continue and try to follow the tutorial (on either hitachi or lite-on drive) I get the bad serial error.

I sent you a PM.

If you can send me the files via e-mail. I gave you my addy in PM.

You can load the Lite-On dummy.bin file into Jungle Flasher without even having the 360 hooked up. Just start Jungle Flasher. Click on Firmware Tool 32 TAB. Then for source load the Lite-On dummy.bin file.

Alright I had a look at them.

Is this all the bin files you have?

You have the below files you sent me.

flashed Now.bin = Hitachi spoofed as Lite-On
New Hitachi Orig firm with lite-on key.bin = Hitachi spoofed as Lite-On
hitachi orig firmware.bin = original hitachi firmware
IDENTIFY.BIN = Lite-On
INQUIRY.BIN = Lite-On
KEY.BIN = Lite-On

There is no dummy.bin file of the Lite-On which the original guy that flashed it should have given you.

Out of all the files you sent you still only have the...

IDENTIFY.BIN = Lite-On
INQUIRY.BIN = Lite-On
KEY.BIN = Lite-On

Files. You have no dummy.bin file.

Your going to have to create this manualy using the IDENTIFY.BIN, INQUIRY.BIN, and KEY.BIN files.

You can use Jungle Flasher to do this but I have never done it. Maybe someone else can verifey that rebuilding it with Jungle Flasher will work.

You need to use Jungle Flasher (I have Jungle Flasher 0.1.66).

Go to the DVDKey 32 TAB.

In the lower right hand corner there is an option named DummyGen that you select.

You will get a warning pop up but just ignore it and select YES to continue.

The next screen will have you add the KEY.BIN, INQUIRY.BIN and IDENTIFY.BIN so add them using the backups provided from the oprignal guy that flashed the drive. After you add them select OK.

This will save a dummy.bin file so go ahead and save it.

You will get another warning saying the dummy.bin is missing some drive specific information. It will say do you wish to proceed choose YES.

It will now say do you wish to repair with bar codes choose YES.

Now the next screen has different sections that need to be filled in by looking at codes on the Lite-On drive. HERE is an explanation and images of where to find the codes that need to be added to rebuild the dummy.bin properly.

After you fill in all the codes select OK.

Thank you so very much larry. Hopefully last question. I shouldn't need anything, other than the dvd drive (with power via the xbox 360) and a serial connection from dvd drive to the motherboard in my pc to try this? I don't have a connectivity kit or a probe or anything. Once I get confirmation, I may look into it this evening. If not then the weekend for sure.

Don't get ahead of yourself. First rebuild the dummy.bin so you can spoof the iXtreme 1.6 Lite-On firmware with the proper information. You do not need the drive powered/connected to the PC to do this step. matter of fact your going to have to open up the drive to get the codes to rebuild the dummy.bin file. Read the links that I have given you.

Follow the steps in my above post to rebuild the dummy.bin file.
