I am trying to create backups of my files, and want to be able to read them on another computer which only has a dvd-rom drive. Currently I am using a dvd+rw disk and nero (with a dvd+- r/rw drive to burn), but can only read the disk in my dvd +- drive. What am I doing wrong? - is it the media I am using (dvd + rw disks) or is it something else.

You still havent said what media you're using ... stating whether it is minus or plus format is totally irrelevant.
Search guide section for step by step tutorial(s) !

Ritek G04 DVD-R X4 , Arita DVD+R X4 ... etc
Also you didn't mention any of the software that you had used to back up your DVD !!
Put ALL info , or we wont be able to help (because the symptoms you've explained are just too general).

Fred , are you burning VOB/BUP/IFO files to a VIDEO_TS folder in DVD-Video mode with Nero ?
Have you ever backed up a DVD before ..?
If you are using a RW (the Verbatim you're using should be fine as they're fairly good media) don't forget to finalize RW media !
(Other than that , have a 'search messages' & you'll find most answers have already been given at some point mate)

Heya Herbsman,
If you finalize a RW disk, can it still be erased and reused? Thanks. ;)

Doohickey: Yes mate , you have to do a 'full erase' but then you are left with a clean disc !! (even though it still looks like it has info/data on it).
fred03: If using Nero to back up data , I usually tick/check the 'Verify (after burn)' box.
Also when you say digital images , that's quite a broad term .... care to elaborate ?

Hi- sorry for the delay.
The images are jpg`s or tiffs photos.I now have the problem that when i ask it to verify it works fine with verbatim dvd+rw but fails the verification with Packard Bell dvd+R-even though they are exactly the same files.
Thanks

Verbatimm is good media , where as I haven't heard such good things of Packard Bell...
(Suggest you use Verbatim or Ritek media)
