I haven't seen this posted anywhere, and I've even searched.
I have a console at my house, and now a console at a relatives house that i'd like to play on while there. Can I use the same Live account? I know I could just take my HDD over with me but I would play 2 different sets of games on each box.
What i'm thinking about is if I was already on Live, and the other console was fired up and signed in also. Obviously it would be more a gamertag ban issue rather than a console ban wouldn't it.

it wouldn't work. You could put the gamertag on there, but in order to get on live, you would have to recover your profile onto that console.
Once you do that, if you went back to your, to sign in, I believe you would need to recover again.
You won't be able to log on with two of the same gamertags. Microsoft has thought of this.

Yep, tried it myself. It doesn't work. Wanted my profile on 2 different 360's in different rooms so I wouldn't have to swap hdd's. If it's on LIVE, it won't log on. You'd have to recover your profile each time you turned on each console.

Ya, never been a fan of this.
Why can I not use my profile if I'm playing at a buddy's house on his xbox? I'm sure MS has some reasoning behind this, but I don't see what the problem is.
I suppose it promotes co-op play and other multiplayer forms... which of course puts money in MS' pockets with the Live subscription.

I have two 360's and one gamertag, i sometimes just hook up a tiny USB keyboard for entering all the details for recovering the gamertag between the 2 consoles. I don't play on Live and i can't be bothered creating/maintaining a second Live-passport-hotmail-whatever-they-keep renaming-it-to account just to avoid recovering the gamertag.

The reason for this is actually quite logical. (dam did I just sound like spok from star trek?...) anyway, if it was not done this way then you can have a live account, share it with all your buddies and everyone can have a free live account. Imagine all the possibilities! Not to mention the most obvious reason is can you imagine two of the same gamertags online at the same time?
Here's some advice, you can do what I do. I own two boxes in different rooms. I have my live account on my memory card, this way depending on which console I'm playing I just insert the memory card into that console and your good to go.

I never got around to buying a memory card as both consoles have hard drives. What size memory card would be suitable ?, i might buy one if they're cheap enough, it sure gets tedious having to recover the tag a few times a week.

Even a memory card with the least memory is suitable. I believe the smallest card is 64MB. You can find them cheap at gamestop, ebay, etc. A gamertag only uses about 1MB I think. I have a hard drive on both consoles also but it sure is lot more convenient to have your gamertag on the memory card and just swap as needed. You can still save your games to your hard drive your just signing in from your memory card.

Thanks for the info, will have a mooch on eBay.
edit- ouch!, the cheapest/smallest are £10 for a measly 64MB!, no way Microsoft, i'll start swapping the hard drives over, they're only in the next room to each other anyways.

I have 3 boxes in the house, my brother has 2 at his house, 2 other friends with 2 boxes each, and 4 friends with 1 box each. That's thirteen boxes total that I play on at least from time to time. My profile is on my 512MB memory card. No matter which of these 13 Xbox 360s I am at, my Live profile loads up as if I was at home. You simply can't have your Live profile on more than on console at once, which is why when you recover it on another machine, the other one is null & void (so to speak). I used to take my HDD with me to someone else's house, but you cant have your AND his HDDs connected to access both profiles, which is why I bought the memory card.

Thanks guys. I guess I can't format a USB pen drive to act as a memory card then, otherwise people wouldn't have bothered with the mem cards. F it then i'll just cart my HDD around, and if it becomes faulty i'll throw it at the first MS rep I see.

You gotta wonder what moron decided since a console uses an hdd that memory cards are no longer needed, the least they could've done is provide an update so usb pen drives could be used instead, case in point i've had to restart from scratch on farcry 2 three times because the game save on the hdd became corrupted & 1/2 way thru the game,i've got it sussed now just created extra game saves on the hdd but if i had a mem card i could've backed up the saves as i went & avoided restarts,i swear the boffins there at ms have peanuts for brains

Sorry to go off topic, but i wonder whether it is possible to play an arcade game given the following scenario:
1) Game is purchased and downloaded from Console1 using Account1 (that way the game is tied to Console1 and anyone can play it on that console).
2) Account2 plays the game on Console1 (since the game was originally downloaded on Console1, so Account2 will have no problem playing the full game).
3) Account1 plays the game from Console2 (since the game was purchased by Account1, so Account1 will have no problem playing the full game).
Of course there is no problem if steps 2 & 3 happen at different times, but is it possible to play the game on live at the same time given the mentioned scenario?

When you downloaded it to his xbox, was it the first time you ever downloaded it? If so, shouldn't it always be attached to his xbox (i.e. could be played using any account on his xbox), or did the fact that it ran simultaneously on 2 xboxs broke something up?

I use an MU card, you can take it anywhere as long as you move your acount to it, worst case scenario is acount retreiving onlline, but its not worth the 15 - 20 min to do it. Just remember if you do a acount retreive the previous xbox will loose its acount right (meaning log in) .So move it(your live acount) knowing you can use it on old xbox till you put it back.
