Hi guys i have been reading through tutorials to try and familiarize myself with the process but i still have a few questions about the easiest way to go about it.
I have 3 Hitachi drives that are all different firmware versions, I have a 78, 47 and not sure on the other. What i want to know is can i use the same software for all 3?
I have downloaded firmware tool box 4.8 and i am looking into the slax cd to hook the drive up, are these programes currently the best way to go about this?
I have not flashed a drive before but need to learn as Ive started repairing them. I need a little confirmation realy before i go ahead and brick my drive. The part im most worried about is loosing the dvd key.

So am i right in thinking that i would begin by booting the pc via slax so the computer recognizes the drive and then run firmware toolbox to extract firmware to a safe place. Then i flash with i extreme 1.6 right or wrong?
Each Hitachifirmware revision has a custom iXtreme firmware for it. In this case, you would be flashing iXtreme 1.51 as there is no iXtreme 1.6 for Hitachis. The Jungle Flasher process is heavily automated so basically once you get the drive into Mode B, you click a button to start the flashing process. It will dump the firmware and flash a test sector. If the test sector reports stable, continue. Once you click OK to continue, JF will flash the remaining sectors and complete the process.
